try out this one!! topics in this site not much descriptive but.. this site covers approx all the topics of js and if you are about to learn js then i'll assume that you are having a bit of knowledge of java and coding so it'll not create an issue in understanding the js topics from this site.
    Go for it!
    w3schools.com/js/

I also use codeacademy.com. You can even do some projects there where you learn by building, or simply chose the javascript lessons. They gamify the learning process making it more fun and engaging.

    +1 for codeacademy.
Stay away from w3schools -> use mozilla developer network instead if you are looking up anything related to js

Another vote for codeacademy, although I did it for pythong. I must say that I couldn't keep on their projects after finishing the course, but the gamification of the course was brilliant.

YOUTUBE! It's so easy to learn something when you can actually see what they are trying to do. Much better than reading IMO.

https://www.codeschool.com/ is the best place to start learning Javascript. They have many courses for Javascript. Codeschool also offer first month discount which might come in handy: http://webuilddesign.com/enroll-in-code-school-at-9-dollars/

Agreed. w3school is overrated. People keep suggesting it because it is old...

I shall go against the grain by suggesting the tutorials at HTMLDog. They are very conscientious about teaching best practice.

A compelling argument in favor of HTMLDog is this statement:
They discuss the reasons for using or not using these libraries, frameworks and &c. You will come out with a rational understanding of javascript

    cheers,

    gary
