I’m looking to really fine tune my vB forum (the one in my signature). What are the standard SEO techniques to optimize a vB forum?

Only go with vBSEO if you can absolutely afford it...and basically I mean if you dont have anything better to spend your money on :p ...vBSEO is good software, but WAY overpriced. Really, the only people who should be using it are those who run very developed forums with much revenue...if you're not raking in a ton of money each month, your $150 is probably better spent elsewhere.

vBSEO is good, but it's not $150 good

There are free alternatives to vBSEO.

It is also a fact that there is no quantifiable proof the method works better then php urls that I'm aware of.

What about rel=nofollow on the links that are useless such as all the system links, usernames etc.? That sure would help by giving more juice to the threads instead.

DP has it but I could not find it by Googling and I can only imagine the pain to do it manually ...

Any idea on where I could find it? The rel=nofollow that gprime mentions above are not this but nofollow on external links in the threads - that I don't want.

    Thanks!

Hey dude, did you ever figure this out? Is this both a rel=nofollow and robots.txt issue?

    Only rel=nofollow.

I bought the vBSEO. It is expensive but if time is valuable for you then just buy it. Nice support and even their own forum. My forum with vBSEO is here BTW.

I started the forum around 8 weeks ago and the vBSEO was added just some days after the start.

But the H1 tags you have to do yourself and some other SEO-tweaking. I should blog about how to do that before I forget ...

    Actually the only people who should be running vBSEO are those who want a complete SEO solution for their forums, without the drawn out hassle of manual code edits and template changes. vBSEO has changed from being merely some sort of URL Rewrite program, and now offers a multitude of exciting, original and unique features that help distinguish it against those free alternatives. Because vBSEO is completely revamping vBulletin functionality and essentially working as a vBulletin version upgrade with the introduction of new features such as;

    1. Custom Rewrite Rules
    2. Trackbacks and Pingbacks
    3. Relevant Replacements
    4. Code Compression
    5. "Height" and "Width" Insertion
    6. Google Adsense Targetting
    7. Meta Keyword and Description Optimization
    8. "Previous / Next Thread" Optimization
    9. Post External / Internal Links Optimization
    10. Acroynm Expansion
    11. PR Consolidation
    12. Automatical rel="nofollow" insertion
    13. Footer Archive Links

It is no surprise that vBSEO has a higher price than requested for a vBulletin license itself. Price is not the issue here, it is what you are getting out of here, as you can see in the vBSEO Reviews forums, practically all customers are overwelhmingly satisfied with the results they have experienced from vBSEO. Whether they wanted to increase revenue, increase their search engine placement, increase search engine traffic or to simply increase their search engine indexation vBSEO devilers everytime.

This combined with a flawless support system, whereby all topics go answered and solved, and a tightly intergrated communal forum culture has been developed which means the vBSEO Support Forums not only work well as a place to discuss, troubleshoot and support vBSEO but to also in general discuss SEO, vBulletin and the other numerous aspects with affect vBulletin powered forum administrators.

Vbseo is one of the best $150 i've ever spent but i have to say that the support sucks big time.....I get replies to my ticket after a day or so + above that they are not very useful , I have to add a couple more replies to explain them everything.......
