Jake, All you of your tips are great for building a slow steady increase in traffic. No doubt about that. But he is looking for LOTS OF TRAFFIC FAST. The only way to do that is to spend money. I am all for building natural traffic, as it tends to be more targeted and sustained, but that wasn’t what he asked!
-Social networking is quick and dirty. Gather a group of friends and broadcast like mad. -Entrecard is free and you can get a couple of hundred extra hits per day. If you REALLY work it you can get about 400-500. Not only good for traffic but for exposure. -This is old school but buy an opt in email list ($10 and up) and send out a newsletter pronto. -Buy a traffic booster (cheaper than Adwords and other pay per clicks) for like $30 bucks.
I like Entrecard because of the exposure to other bloggers. It's a business card swapping site but it also generates good traffic and it is not unusual for others to approach you for collaboration. You can get really creative with the marketing too.

I found that posting useful information in forums and blogs related to your topic can drive traffic to your site within minutes of posting.
