Hello, I looked into a few wordpress addons, but didn't exactly find what I needed. Is there a way to add a small rectangle on my sidebar that just shows a picture, and that's it? No link, and really nothing else besides a caption. I have no need for gallerys or addons that are too distracting. If I were to do it myself via code, how would I accomplish this? (I'm new to wordpress) Also, I looked into getting an RSS button that many people are putting on their blogs these days. Which addon is this? I couldn't find it for anything. Thanks.
For the picture you can put html code into a text widget and put it on the sidebar. For the rss button you can either get a picture of an rss symbol and link it to your feed, or get feedburner (which is what most the chicklets you saw probably were). I suggest feedburner because it gives you stats about what readers are using to subscribe and it can help you optimize/customize your rss feed. There are thousands of bloggers who use feedburner, its the industry norm. Its even better if you have wordpress because feedburner will change your feed through it without losing any subscribers.
if you aren't using a theme which supports widgets you can add the source idrectly to your sidebar.php (or wherever you want the image to appear)
