A vast majority certainly are, and not just regarding DMOZ. There are quite a few people, even on this forum, that like to "misbehave" a little regarding SEO, marketing, or other business practices. Just because so many others do it, doesn't make it OK for me (you) to do it.
Insulting/abusing members is not allowed in this forum. If his thread has hurt you personally you could have reported it to the admins or the mods instead of mocking at him. You being honest dmoz editor is not going to put an end to the attitudes of thousands of webmasters (or can be said every webmaster) who are ready to pay for an inclusion in dmoz. Even some Dmoz editors are corrupt, and its hard to find such corrupt editors, which is the reason for threads like this being started. When a forum has rules regarding this, and he had started such thread, it will automatically closed by the mods.,
Hey, I completely agree with you on this. Believe me, if I had spotted an editor trying some stunt like this, they would have been toast as well. I also agree with you that the corrupt editors are harder to find, mainly because no corrupt editor would START A THREAD stating their intentions of selling listings. There are corrupt editors out there. I have seen it with it my own eyes. I even know of one corrupt editor that would use his "listing power" to get good link exchanges and such.
Exactly there are corrupt editors and this stuff does go on, I think you need to take a step back and check yourself, who are you the thought police ! dishing out abuse to people aint the way, he could be a noob who doesn’t know better, Don’t hate the player hate the game
ummm.. yea, Don't hate the player (Portprophecy) hate the game(dmoz listing corruption) try to understand what you write when you are writing it. k, thx.
But you are allowed to call a spade a bloody shovel. Bribing a DMOZ editor is clearly against their rules, and unethical.
I understood perfectly, ur on about a different game ................. Anyway all im saying is I understand what port was doing and respect, but you do things in nicer ways ..........
Exactly, you are right, but this is not the forum to abuse them publicly and insult them., The forum should be resource-zone.org and not digitalpoint.com. THere is also an option to report bad post to moderators
I'm saying that PortProphecy is not abusing them or insulting them. He is just saying it like it is, and there's a difference. Let me explain: it would be unacceptable abuse if it were personal comments, about the OP's mother or physical appearance or something. But it wasn't. The OP made a corrupt statement, and Port called him out for it.
I'm just a nice guy. I did understand where you are coming from though, but you just have to always look at it from both angles. When I posted mine, I just X'd out the name. No harm done. Just others are a lot harder on the cheaters. We need these two types of personalities though, and I had absolutely no prob with Derek ousting the person trying to swindle his/her way into dmoz.
The OP is not an innocent - he has several furniture related sites and good PR and he got a bit greedy. Others who abide by the rules have to wait and so should he. He got caught breaking the rules. No sympathy whatever. But from the fact that many DMOZ listed sites have PR0 he would have been wasting his money in any case. Plus scam artists who are not editors (or not editors with the rights needed) can reply to these sorts of threads, take the cash, and run. By being outed he has saved $250 thanks to PP. By posting the offer here he was doomed from that instant - the site and any related ones would have been bagged, tagged, and banned forever before PP even responded. And it would be impossible for any editor to list the site for payment or for free. The pity is that the site looked to me to be very listable and a site in that niche that is very listable is quite a rarity. Had he simply enquired in the DMOZ side of this forum about whether there were any problems with the site being listable he *may* have prompted an editor to go look at the category concerned and clear the backlog including his site plus possibly give it a second Regional listing. Such things have happened before. He's lost all that now.
