Looking for someone to help in testing new service - DOUBLE your internet bandwidth!

    REQUIREMENTS:

You must have more than one internet connection (at your house or business), and a dedicated linux server at that location with 3 Network Cards to use as a router. (2x NICs to connect to internet interfaces, 1x NIC to connect to the local area network)

It does not matter what kind of internet access you have, it could be cable, dsl, wireless or a mixture of the above.

    What this project involves:

I'm investigating the possibilities of offering a connection bonding service. This would entail bonding both of your internet connections into a single internet connection. Packets would be split down each connection providing double the bandwidth. Example:

    1X DSL 6mbit download 768KBPS upload
    1X Cable 10mbit download 512KBPS upload

With service your maximum internet download rate would be 16mbit download and 1.25mbit upload. The service also has fail over, if one connection goes down all traffic is forwarded down the other without interruption. You will also receive fully routed static ip addresses for your network, 1IP to start.

This diagram may be more helpful. (sorry for the bad graphics, im a server admin, not a designer)

TYPICAL NETWORK SETUP WITH 2 INTERNET CONNECTIONS

As you can see with a typical setup utilizing 2 internet connections, the bandwidth is not added together. Your maximum single thread download rate is limited to whatever the fastest connection is. Meaning, if you have Cable at 6MBIt and DSL at 3mbit, your maximum single thread download rate is 6mbit. You won't be able to download at 9mbit unless you use multithreaded transfers. The connection also doesn't have automatic failover without interruption (if you're playing a video game for instance and one line goes down, you will be dropped from the server)

TYPICAL NETWORK SETUP WITH MY PLANNED NEW SERVICE

Utilizing this setup, the client maintains 2 active connections to one of my servers. The 2 connections are bonded at both the client and server sides. Utilizing this method, automatic failover without interruption is available. If you have a 6mbit cable and a 3mbit dsl using this method, your maximum download rate for a single threaded transfer would be 9mbit.

    Who I want:

I would prefer someone who works online for a living or is online most of the day, and has some linux server admin experience to work out the fine details. As mentioned above at the start of this thread, you will need 2 internet connections coming to your house or business in order to work with me on this. You will also need to have a linux server with 3 network cards in order to plug in all the various ports. In exchange, i'll provide you with free bandwidth, and a single static IP address during the duration of the testing. Length of testing will be between 30-60days, you will receive a free account during that period.
