Looking for some design pointers/critiques

I'm pretty adept at the technical side of building a site. It's the artistic side that vexes me.

Anyways, I'm about done with a vB forum site I was building as a gift for one of my brothers, but something just doesn't look quite right to me. I don't know if it is the color scheme or the graphic elements, but I'd appreciate any comments from those with an eye for these details:

I don't personally like the colour or the border of the site, it could be a lot nicer. The inside of it is fine but the border and logo doesn't look very nice.

Maybe try using a different font for the logo, may improve it.

Try a blue colour to go with the headers of the forum. Try and keep it simple and use as little colours as possible.

 

Thanks. I simplified it a bit and I think it looks better. I tried a very off white with blue tint, but it didn't look quite right. The off white with yellow tint seems OK.
