Looking for a search engine script with the ability to: 1. Have it crawl sites added by users/admin 2. display results only from sites that have been crawled. 3. Ability to add advertisements 4. Ability to run a niche search engine 5. Ability to crawl for multimedia, videos, pictures etc.. Been looking around and most the ones i have found pull results from other search engines which I dont want. I want to make a search engine for a specific niche.
the 4 first listed abilities could be handled by Google custom search .. But I think that you are looking for a script .. Just to say that nothing could be more powerful than google search .. If you find something , let us know, interesting question ..
If I had a demo I wouldnt need the script I am looking for it to look similar to google and function almost the same but for me to be able to tell it the pages/sites to crawl.
You might want to try sphider, with some customization (which can be downloaded from their forums for free) you can do everything you listed very easily. It's a PHP script with a MYSQL database backend. It can handle up to 100,000 sites, but with a decent server I'm sure it would have no problem doing much more than that.
