I have a game mobster-law.com which will be getting about 300 unique players a day. Being a game it has a lot of Php/Mysql involved which causes slower shared hosting to cause lag and crashes to the game. The space and bandwidth requirement are pretty basic. About 2GB space and 50GB Bandwidth will be sufficient. The requirement i am looking for though is that the servers should be able to handle a large amount of php and sql. The last game i had overshot the default maximum and threw error. I have another game on a VPS with 1 GB+ RAM and what not but this is new and i need a good option where i can upgrade easily. I dont mind shared hosting as long as they can handle heavy loads for small times
I think sooner or later, your shared hosting plan will demand you to upgrade. I suggest you get a VPS plan that can accommodate your needs. Shared hosting is best for basic website that doesn't require that much database connections.
We don't try to stack a ton of clients on our servers. If the server in question is starting to get high loads, we either move some accounts to another server with less loads or setup a new one. This is only an rpg game i have quite a few customers with these games the servers can ge hacked thats why he wud need a host with good secruity but they don't use much load
these are round based so there will be real good loads during one hour twice a week or so. And i have had pms telling me about VPS with 256mb guarenteed ram with the 5GB storage and unlimited bandwidth for 10$ !!! Seems more than any normal shared hosting can offer but at the same price.
