Looking for Online Ordering Software for a Restaurant

I just acquired a client who requires online ordering for his delivery/take-out restaurant. I have presented the paid options to him (BigHoller, OrderTalk, Merosys, etc.) and he is not interested in running 3rd party webbased software. He wishes to have server-side software that will not have a recurrent cost.

I have attempted looking for Open Source ordering systems, and have found none. I have looked at the OS shopping carts, and haven't found one that provides all the features we will require.

Features we need are basically this... shopping cart, payment gateway, fax notification of new order. (BigHoller provides pretty much exactly what we are looking for in terms of features).

Does anyone know of a system like what I'm searching for?

If not, could I please get an estimate on how much a programmer would charge to create a system like this?

    Thanks for any assistance.

Hmmm, you took on a client which you cannot provide the technical expertise for without getting prices first from subcontractors?

Looking at a professional freelancer probably around $500 for a decent one. For a company probably around $1000 assuming all designs will be provided.

Costs vary massively though, most UK companies would charge about $3,000+ for this sort of programming.

How long it would take would depend on how much code they have they are reusing and how much they are writing from scratch plus how much other work they have on at the same time.

2 weeks would be reasonable but most will play it safe and say a month

Also of cause depends on if the freelancer is doing it full time or only as a second income in which case timescales could be much longer if they are only catch the odd hour here or there but then if you are paying "pro" prices you should expect pro service

A bit off topic, Astaroth, but in my own defense, two things.

1 - I wasn't aware of his software requirements until after a contract was signed.

2 - I never stated that I didn't have the expertise to complete the project, it's just a tad time-sensitive and I have the rest of his page to build. Therefore, I was looking to be able to tweak an existing script or have one built by a programmer here.

Thanks for your input though, that's about where I was thinking the pricing for a freelance programmer would be.

Then surely it isnt in the scope of the contract for you to deliver and you can price accordingly?

They are still bound to pay you for the work that is in scope as per the contract and either put a reasonable charge for the development work in with the associated increase in time or intentionally put a high price in to drive them away for the dev work and allow you to get on with the contracted design.
