Looking for online forum script

Is DP run on Vbulletin? I'm new to the world of online forum scripts.

I would like to find a script that will have a robust sytem whereby I can generate revenue banner ads as well as have a dynamic online networking forum. I saw that VB is $85 yearly and that's not bad. And I know that phpBB is free and have plenty of mods. With that said, which of these scripts are better suited to my needs of killing two birds with one stone- creating revenue via banner ads and having a great online community

Save yourself the hassle and go with vBulletin right from the start. You won't regret it.

I use phpBB and am VERY happy, although out of the box it's pretty poor both search engine optimization wise and feature wise. If you've got time to mod the mess out of phpBB it is quite nice.

Yes, this forum uses vBulletin... $85/year or $160 for lifetime license.

Thanks. I think GuyfromChicago is right. I just don't have that sort of time to mess with all the mods and because money isn't an issue, VB may the answer. But any ideas on how robust they are with allowing advertising and banner ads on their scripts?

I've been using the forum from simplemachines.org for my latest site.

The forum on it's own works great, but customizing it has been impossible.

I have a few ideas that I require for my forums. I've spent hour after hour after hour trying to get the damn thing to work. I'm at the end of my rope. So, I'd highly recommend just getting the good stuff right off the bad.

I get this strong feeling that modding vBulletin will be much easier than dealing with the simplemachines.org forum.

I thought that putting the $160 toward SEO would be a better use of my money. Nothing could be further from the truth. The amount of my precious time spent fighting with a forum with limited support for my needs has been a disaster.

I personally like Invision Power board...much cleaner interface if you ask. I use it on my website and have no problems with it.

IPB and VBB are the best if you can pay. both have tons of options and mods. for free forums go for SMF or phpBB. as per your requirements of creating revenue via banner ads all forums are equal. its your second criteria that determines how well you succeed :)
