I had a DP member install Php Link Directory So far I am very happy.
Very user friendly (I am a noob at this), but have found it easy to work with, mod and change skins

Check out my new sports directory site to see what it looks like at www.sportswholesale.ca and please submit any sports related sites.

I'd also suggest PHPLD. Its free and easy to install. And you can have Search Engine Friendly URLs for your categories and subcategories also.

phpld maybe not the best available, but a large portion of link directories are using phpld. and you can get support quickly. and there is a free version.

I've been using eSyndicat but I am looking for a bit more.. Really what I'd like is a directory that doesn't require a URL (odd, I know) but be more of a resource directory. Even for sites or resources that don't have a website yet. Does anyone know of a directory that offers that as an option or am I going to need to dig into the .php?

I rolled my own link directory script (with a twist) and got 42k backlinks and a PR5 out of the deal after several months.

I'm trying to port it over as a WordPress plugin though.

Anyone interested in going in on the $1250 development cost and sharing the script? PM me.
