Hello guys! Back to school time! Looking for a brand new laptop. Currently I have a desktop at home, which is a P4 3.0ghz, 1Gb ram with XP Pro. It runs good for its purpose (web related + photoshop + ms office).. Looking for a laptop that will fulfill this same purpose but with little more power. Maybe a core 2 duo with 2gb ram and XP Pro since Vista is still new. I am browsing Dell and see some good stuff but since I don't know much about what's a real good deal, I am asking you guys. Also looking at bestbuy.. I am in Canada so no American locations please (anything online is good).. Looking forward to reading your reviews and suggestions. Budget: $700 max
Don't know what your budget is but this one here is WELL worth the price HP Pavilion dv9535nr Laptop - It is awesome! Also the IBM Lenovo laptops are pretty good for the cheap price tag (I have one )
Sorry, forgot to mention. Budget is $700 max. Post edited. jmhyer123, I don't see the price. Btw what's Cnetrino?
700 CAD isn't much for a decent laptop. I've been looking for a decent cheap one cause I aint got no money. My desktop is shared by my family, except my sister who was given a laptop from my parents. Anywho, my PC is a p3, 860mhz, with 256mb ram and a 40 gig hd. Thats why Im looking for one. All I can seem to find though, within a similar budget is acer aspires, which are only about 1.6ghz. Thats only one processor! Do they make them like that anymore? If ya find something lemme know!
ebay has alot of cheap NEW laptops. Just check the seller's feedback to make sure you aren't getting a sketchy deal. I bought mine from ebay and got a great deal for sure!
I got a Gateway dual core (T2060) with a GB of RAM and a 120 GB for about $600 US a few months ago at Best Buy. On site to keep an eye on is fatwallet.com as you will see posts for a lot of different web deals. Let us know what you end up getting
Thanks guys, just a questions, what is the difference between core 2 duo and duo core? Also, do all laptops these days include wifi?
Would this be of any use? www.shivaranjan.com/2006/08/09/intel-core-2-duo-vs-core-duo/ You will have to copy and paste the link as I cannot post live links
I haven't check the latest prices, but I think Core 2 Duo with 2GB of ram might be a little out of your price range. The cheaper Toshiba I can find with those specs is $999 after rebate. Dell will probably be a little cheaper than that, but you'll have to make a sacrifice somewhere to get it down to $700.
Have you looked on your lap? Sorry couldnt resist that one Happy hunting ......some friends have Dell and it works from the box....and they seem happy. I have a 4 1/2 year old Aopen (used by F1 teams back then) and it doesn't miss a beat and fast too.
I would go with a dell, they have some of the best customer support. But if you had a higher budget I would recommend an Apple laptop. They are the best, they can even run windows now
I always used a Sony Vaio, but they can be a bit pricey for what they offer. I'm looking at a Lenovo now.
