Hi, I run a movie site that requires lots of manual labor in replacing videos. I currently don't have a way of having users report the non working videos efficiently so I end up having to go through 1500 videos manually to find what's not working. I tried getting help on the wordpress forum to no avail so i'm asking this community for direction. I also need a link submital system for wordpress, that allows users to post links to a specific thread from anywhere on the site, sort of like what this site click here has. Your help is much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this.
The simplest answer would be to set up a contact page, or form to report such issues to the webmaster. You could just ask, or make a simple field on the form where users can copy and paste the link to the problem. Not quite getting this one...are you saying you want readers to be able to post links ? Where ? Do you mean like in the comments area ? Explain further, please.
Thanks, I did the form this eon's ago..it's just too tedious handling 1500 or so links a day that's why i'm looking to automate it if possible. It's affecting my day job having to do this in between. For example if I have a post about the ipad and you have a story about the ipad on your sit, you can enter than name of my post in one box, your url in another and it'll auto post to the comment section or the post itself for referrence. The site i'm using as an example is a movie site which has something like this in place click here to see the submission button and what it leads to and so forth. For the reporting issue I found something called report post for wordpress but it hasn't been updated in like a year and a half when activated it gave me whitepage of death which forced me to go via ftp and remove it.
Off the top of my head, without causing you to find a custom programmer to create such a function, you could just change the fields of your comment form to encourage people to leave links to similar posts. For instance: Change the title "Comments" (or what ever it says) to something like "Post Links" and change the "website" field to say "Link to your article" . If you then set your comments to moderate, you could still weed out any spam that askimet didn't catch. You can change your comment section in comments.php. As for your other problem, reporting links, no matter what plug in or function you use for reporting, wouldn't you still have to manually repair or delete ? You don't want reader to have the ability to delete posts do you ?
Thanks mate, that's currently what I have in place on my site, but nobody is using it instead i'm getting emailed about automating the process. Well i'd like to automate it like the comments moderation where I can easily click on the link to see if its legit and then press approve. I don't mind manually fixing the videos, I do mind going through 1500 of them to find the ones that work lol.
