SMO is the best way to increase traffic of your site. If you do SMO with facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, linkedin, digg, etc. If you post and commenting on forum that will also help to increase traffic.
Youtube seriously worked for me. Had a good video there with our link at the end and it sent me around 200-300 visitor per day. Remember, put a quality useful video there that people would appreciate. Not just bunch of crap.

There are plenty sources of free traffic. Social websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr. Also, there are social bookmarking websites.
Niche targeted forum posting and blog commenting is very effective, I would definitely look into those avenues. You may also want to look into approaching some sites to do guest article posts regarding your website.
