I am considering this as an alternative to phpBB on some sites where the owners cannot afford vBulletin. It looks promising to me, but I'm looking for comments from people who have actaully used and/or are currently using the software, re: user experience, customization, reliability, support community, any security issues or concerns, that sort of thing.
I picked it for the same reasons, it's a nice forum, lots of features and customizable when you have html knowledge... it's not very easy though... Their community is growing fast and lots of extensions are added every week. Check the link below for my SMF forum
Thanks, FlashVictim. That's a lot of pink on your site but nicely done. You should meet Jurgen - he's in the same business and has the same color sense.
I love SMF, I used to have a ton of phpBB forums, I have since converted almost all of them to SMF. The package manager rocks, more features, I find it easier to mod too, templates are little different than what you are used to but overall it is a very good choice.
Thanks, vbgamer. It does look good. I've installed it on one small forum so far and the installation as well as the conversion from phpBB couldn't have been smoother.
The only downside so far is that this forum hasn't been spidered yet... any tips are very welcome since the sitemap is active as well...
The index page has been indexed: http://www.google.com/search?source...&q=site:http://www.catwalkshows.com/community and cached: However, you need to find a way to disable session IDs for "Guests" (including spiders): http://catwalkshows.com/community/index.php/topic,117.new.html?PHPSESSID=9c408316e68edfc6e9451ce43e90be27#new Code (markup): I'm still new to this software - when I get time, I'll look at how to do that.
