Looking for experienced affiliates advice ...

So here is the scoop, my wife runs her own business and has 1 very successful course run online and sold through affiliates. She is extremely knowledgeable and is connected with some of the biggest names in the web/affiliate and publishing world.

She has finished testing a new online membership program and is setting up for a BIG launch this May. I have decided that I will sign in as one of her affiliates and try and surprise the hell out of her by putting together a team of affiliates to assist in her launch. Her membership site should be paying close to $100 per sign up on launch. It currently has a couple hundred members that have participated in the beta testing for the last few months. The launch will have teleclasses, emails, freebies and all sorts of promotions happening. Some really big names will be participating in this (not to brag, just the truth). The relaunch version will include both an online club and a live local event series run throughout North America.

So what I am looking for is some feedback on how to find and encourage affiliates other than posting here when the details are finalized ? What are some good ways to grow an affiliate network without using the CJ and such networks ? What info is crucial to a prospective affiliate when considering promoting a product/site ?

Help a guy win some points with the wife :D we all need points

Heh...I am all for undermining your wife...just be careful as it might make her pissed. :p

Contact some people who do a lot of posting around here, personally, I need a few more details. We are talking a sale involved, how much will it cost the end user, how much will it pay me? Will I be allowed to promote it with incentives or not?

Thats all I can think of...for now...give me a PM and we can chat. :)

    Thanks Flaco,

The idea here is not to undermine her but to have me as her #1 affiliate supporting her :D

From what I understand at this point the user will pay $197 sign up and then a $40 or so monthly payment to belong to the community. The sign up will include series of learning material (not fluffy stuff but unique, useful content). The affiliate will get 1/2 of the sign up so $98.50 so its a nice payout.

Can you elaborate what you mean by promoting with incentives ?

I will PM you when the details are set, she is in the final stages of formatting the club and the sales copy now.

Yes there is a good affiliate program setup for tracking and offers downloads for banners, email text and all sorts of other advertising tools to help out.

I would take the same approach you would for selling a product as an affiliate. Create a nice looking page with the info and all the great reasons why affiliattes should join. Maybe create a landing page thats just for collecting emails so you can have and autoresponse with more info and then email them again around may.

You mean that you did not have that set up from the beginning?

    Then you should be set.

Sometimes the affiliates most likely to join are the ones who have inhouse affiliate programs not tied to a network. Find then and then sell them on the benefits of access to a community of savvy publishers. This works with small sites (not big ones who can afford to go solo) that would benefit from the increased exposure to top affiliates and the ease of your tracking and payment processing. Sell them on the benefits and while the names won't be big, you'll round out some of the key niches for your site; gaining profit from future affiliates and loyalty from your publishers in turn. Best of luck with the network.

My wife has all this running, I am trying to slip in under her radar and setup my own group of affiliates (never done this before) and surprise her with a bunch of additional support.

Except the big names are all her contacts, I am looking for a group of my own.

So how would I find these people then ? I agree that working with smaller independent marketers can be equally as profitable, this is just totally uncharted waters for me so I have little idea where to look

    Thanks for the help.
