Can anyone show me examples of directories running on WordPress so that I can compile a list? I am currently starting a WordPress plugins development project where I plan (among many others) to offer free and premium WordPress plugins. Converting WordPress into a directory via plugins seem like a viable product that I can offer from this project but I need to see working examples to show my partner/coder. Also, I want to ask that if such a project is successfully launched, would you be willing to pay for a premium WordPress plugin that can convert WordPress into a functioning directory and what kind of features do you expect from it?
http://www.linkwebdirectory.com I also had the MOD that does this. Will look for it and post it here if I can find it. hyper
It look like using vbulletin, not wordpress. This one is using phpld In other thread annon mention that he use wordpress as directory. Not sure if it's real.
Interesting plugin there, but I am looking for working directories so that I can collate the data and see what features should be developed for the plugin I have in mind
so you are looking to see what others developed so you can copy? If you want a wordpress powered directory, hire a developer, tell him what you have in mind, ask for a price quote, work together to make sure the final result is the one you were thinking, and stop opening useless & never-ending threads here.
If I had wanted to "copy", I don't have to go through all this trouble asking for samples, do I? My coder is a talented PHP programmer but he is new to WordPress and he does not understand the concept of directories well. Which is why I need examples of directories that have been done in WordPress to show him and give him an idea of what directories are and how it had been done in WordPress. It is not me who will benefit from the "final result", it is the web directory owners community that will find it beneficial if this takes off as planned. As for the last phrase of your "advice", why not stop hijacking my thread and contribute something meaningful if you have something to offer? Otherwise, buzz off.
Why do you want to use wordpress as directory? Hiring programmer to write plugin is not a smart idea, more cost in term of money and time. It's better to search for directory script that suit you.
For the record, I am using phpLD so this idea is not for my own use. It just so happens that I've seen WordPress being used as a directory engine, so I am thinking that it is a good idea to develop a set of plugins for the purpose to benefit the community. My PHP programmer is working for peanuts
