Looking for e-books/articles/reports/scripts to sell || Looking for partners

    Hi folks,

This may not be a very original idea, but anyway, here goes:

I am looking for e-books, articles etc. to sell or distribute through my site (http://public.interlingua.co.uk) - also potentially looking for affiliate partners to help me promote the site. More on that later. The site will get a general cosmetic makeover soon.

I originally set up the site to sell my own e-book. It worked well, so I added a couple more products of my own 'creation'. There are only a few items there and so the number of purchases now is very, very low, but the system works great and I would like to expand it to at least create a residual-level income.

If you have e-books, articles, reports or scripts that you own the rights to (MRR is acceptable, but preferably they should be of your own creation, and they MUST be good quality) then I am interested in selling them. (i.e. you may already be selling them somewhere, but might be looking for another outlet, or perhaps you are not selling them at all yet).

Like I said, I would be most interested in products that *you* have created yourselves - the idea is to build a credible source of well-written and properly reviewed information that is worth its price - not like the 'Get Rich Quick' nonsense that doesn't deserve to occupy cyberspace.

I don't want to go bankrupt with chargebacks, but the other reason is not to sell lots of guff at a low price - my philosophy is that it's better to sell quality at a quality price and build reputation, even if it means fewer overall sales.

I can also distribute stuff for free download (e.g. promotional stuff) but it should not be PURELY promotional (it should have some genuine informational value, but can contain promotional/affiliate links.

You retain all copyright and can have your items removed from sale at any time.

I am a professional writer/editor (tech. and marketing materials, plus a bit of journalism) so I will proofread and edit anything (within reason) that you have written for free in order to guarantee quality. You will be free to sell the proofed version through other channels (we will agree terms on an individual basis). Consider that to be reason enough to work with me!

Commisions and payments: I have already set up a system to inform authors/owners by email when their items have been sold and to tell them how much they have earned (depending on their agreed commission rate).

Commission rates for individual authors/rights owners will depend on the price and quality of their item(s) and can be negotiated.

Commissions will be paid out in a similar way to Google AdSense earnings ($100 or more, plus a 'waiting period' to ensure there have been no chargebacks). PayPal, 2Checkout or any other Thawte-verified secure online payment system that accepts credit cards.

Commissions for sales that result in a chargeback or fraud will, sadly, have to be taken back, and I may have to split any penalty fees :( That's just business.

Providers of goods will be treated as partners - the more efforts they make to promote their own goods, the more % I will pay out. I will endeavour to make the whole process as transparent as possible so there can be no worries about commissions not getting recorded.

Affiliates: I already have a simple affiliate system built into the site. It doesn't use URL query strings - it uses HTTP_REFERER. This means that I can only guarantee that it works with FireFox.

If anyone wants to try setting up with me as an affiliate (aff. accounts can be linked to rights owners accounts - refer to your own product to get more %).

Copyright: You retain all copyrights that you own.

If you've read this far and are still interested, PM me to discuss further :)

If you want to shoot the idea down on account of the fact a million other people are trying to do it - please fire PMs and not thread replies :) If you're not interested, please just don't respond.

    Re: Affiliates -

I forgot to add that if people are really interested, I will add a url/cookie-based tracking system.

At the moment I don't want to exert too much energy prematurely!

PMs sent and answered. Seems to be going better than I expected so far!

Based on responses from this forum and elsewhere, some more info to pre-empt likely questions:

    1) No, I don't want to buy e-books from anyone (not interested in buying rights) I want to pay commissions - you keep the rights. There're too many nonsensical so-called e-books around, so I need to preview them and sift out the grain from the chaff.

    2) Yes, I can offer proofreading services to people who aren't selling their books through my site, but it will be at the ridiculously steep rate that I charge Russian IT companies for proofing tech. docs. An average eBook would cost over a thousand dollars to proofread professionally at my rates ;)

    3) No, I wasn't born yesterday & I won't pay $550 for 'exclusive, one-off rights' to half a Gig of free Get-Rich-Quick guff that you and everyone else downloaded from other DP members at Christmas last year :D I may be a newb on the forum, but I ain't falling for that :)

I must stress the point that I am looking for QUALITY literature that can be sold for a decent price (i.e. it should be of publishable or near-publishable quality), not guff that is being hawked elsewhere with MRR for $1 via PayPal, otherwise it's not even worth giving away free as it will scare people away from purchasing anything for real money. If I sell that kind of stuff, customers will rightly demand their money back and I will lose money on chargebacks.

This kind of stuff: http://123digitalstore.com/index.php?cmd=products&prod_id=27 is no use! My apologies to the owner of the site - it's not a swing at him, it's just a convenient example.

I realise that in the world of eBay & PayPal, eBooks have almost become another form of currency and the concept of writing is dead (see the link above) - I wonder if the only people buying this stuff are actually just buying it to resell :D Kind of a mad pyramid scheme.

To reiterate - I'm looking for books and articles that contain information which is humanly useful. It should not contain the words 'if you follow these instructions to the letter...' unless it takes the p*ss out of books that contain those words.

Wow... amazing. So far, so interesting.

It seems that the terms 'e-Book' and 'total p*ss' should by now be synonymous in the English language :D

Folks... please, don't write to me if you think I'm looking for books about:

    # Get-rich-quick/Make vast amounts of money from nothing/make vast amounts of money without working or similar schemes (if any of these worked, you would be making vast amounts of money doing them instead of making small amounts of money writing about them, wouldn't you?)
    # How to sell eBooks (why the f8 would somebody in their right mind buy an eBook to learn how to sell eBooks? :D)
    # How to 'grow your member' (I find it hard enough to get trousers with enough swing space over here as is, and I don't want to sell anything to anyone dumb enough to believe that the size of their shwang is the only reason their girlfriend isn't impressed...)
    # How to f8 with well-established sites that have enough money to bring me down a million times for selling books encouraging people to f8 with them, like eBay, Craiglist, PayPal... blah blah
    # How to become a gambling master overnight (or how to lose all your money in one night, so you don't have enough left to sue the author)
    # How to auction your own kidneys ('nuff said)

Now I just wait for replies like, 'you dumb f8, what other kinda e-books is there?' to roll in :D

Really, folks, I think I'm on a hiding to nowhere.

The eBook gutters of the internet are at bursting point, folks. The market is so swamped with crud that not only are people buying 'books' with 'republishing rights' for $1 (think how laughable that is in the real world!!) and selling them for the same without reading them (they're mostly unreadable anyway) but people are uploading them en masse to free hosting servers and giving them away for free!

What I'm struggling to communicate here is that I am not trying to pry a hole for myself in the sordid world of being paid to watch porn, or quadrupling the proceeds from selling elderly relatives' internal organs on eBay in five easy steps.

I'm looking for the cream of the crop. No, not the stuff that floated to the top of the eBay eBook cesspit, but real, readable, gimmick-free stuff that people will buy and refer to for things other than to check which step they missed out on the road to making $100,000 in five hours from the instructions in their $10 eBook.

It's looking more and more unlikely that anyone has anything even remotely close to that :D Don't anyone take this as a personal slight - it's not - I'm just trying to look on the bright side.

Alternatively, if someone would like to buy it, I have a great eBook that I wrote myself, called "How would you like to make $100,000,000? I'm willing to sell it along with one-off MRR and FPR to the highest bidder. Bid by reply.

Curious, why are people flooding me with PMs ofering to buy the one-off rights instead of replying here?

Highest bid has a few zeroes but is not enough, I'm looking for more. With proper advertising and in the right hands, the book will make ten times that on its first day.

    Keep bidding, folks.
