Hi, Looking for a Digg clone script. I've checked out: 1) Pligg - I can't get comfortable with the code base, the support, and the spam protection (e.g. no way to moderate comments). 2) Social Web CMS - A Pligg fork. I have no idea where this product is headed. And since it shares the Pligg code base, I have similar concerns. Good intentions though. 3) PHPDugg - ??? 4) Drigg - The original developer is gone and I think this Drupal extension went with him. 5) Corank - A hosted Digg which is actually pretty reasonable, but it is hosted and I want something I can control on my own server. The fundamental issue facing any site like this is spam. Without good ways of controlling it, the site will fail miserably. So I am looking for a well designed script with this focus. If anyone knows of any other clone out there, I would appreciate it. Rich
Well since u already posted the main ones only few other alternatives are there I think there is a list here http://www.clone-script.com/Digg/ see it
Hi, Yes, I think I have gone through the well known list. The others that are posted on the site that you cited, are dormant or gone. I think I am going to roll my own, if I go ahead with my idea. Thanks for the help. Rich
Yea.. uSE Pligg get it modified according to your needs. currently pligg is the best digg clone script IMO Neways best of luck with ur project
I am not sure which is better Pligg or Social Web CMS (a fork of Pligg). Both have lots of deficiencies. I think that had either of these development groups asked for and used outside assistance (they usually just ask for money), the final products would have been much better. I am going to have to redesign the database structure and pour in much more integrity and validation code. Basically do a complete build from scratch. I will have to throw out unneeded functions as well as introduce badly needed functions such as listing and comment moderation. So, it is a do-it-yourself job it looks like. Rich Thanks again for your help.
I have been trying to get Pligg to work of mare than 2 days now...they should call it "Plague" because it is riddled with error messages, redundant functions, and bugs. When you get one thing going, you get an error message for something else. What should be simple functions, require file editing and it's not exactly clear how and when to do them. If this is the best of the scripts out there, then there aren't really any real scripts out there.
Yes. I could never get Pligg to work either. After looking at the codebase and the overall design, I realized that they could never stabilize the system. So, I decided, that if I wanted to do a Digg-like site, I would have to design and develop it myself. Rich
Keep me posted. Do you know if there is a paid one out there anywhere for now ? I'd rather fork over some cash and have support and fixes than pull my hair our over this one.
Hi, I've been following the development of this product for quite some time. It may be a breeze compared to other solutions, since stability and reliability are in very short supply nowadays. However, for me, a breeze is lying out on the porch and reading a good book. I would put this more in the hurricane territory. But, again, it is a matter of perspective, and what one is use to in one's life. I don't see much discussion, on the forum. The developers have pretty much insulated themselves from comments, which is probably the reason that they have produced the product that they have produced. Rich
You know, actually I did. I rolled up my sleeves (You know how it is when you get pissed and want something to work) , and started reading the forums a little, and even got myself a premium theme for my project. It's still a big learning curve for me, not being a coder, and there are some issues, but I can see that they are fixable if I buckle down and learn the lingo. A lot of my frustration has subsided, but I still have a ways to go. I can see maybe having it together with another few days (week) of dedication.
