Looking for Content, buyer beware!?

    Hi All,

I've found numerous offers for web content offered at extremely low prices. For example, there are several offers for databases here on the DP forums. The databases appear to offer access to thousands of song lyrics, recipes, articles, you name it... all for about $5.00. WOW!

When you follow the thread of posts, you can see that many times the seller is asked if they have the copyright license to what they are selling, resale rights etc., they typically respond with an emphatic "YES!".

Many times the seller hasn't installed or used the database that they are selling, yet they say "Full resale rights". Within a few minutes you can see that the people who purchase these databases will then immediately start reselling them. What a potential mess it could easily become if some of the content in these databases was ripped off to begin with.

Seems to me like the end user in this system could be setting themselves up with some huge liability, potentially hosting stolen content on their own site. I guess they could always make a case that they bought it from some guy online, that should work shouldn't it?

Anyway, Sorry for the long post but I really can't help myself here. I would much rather pay for content that I know was backed up with a license.

E-zine style articles that contain links to the authors website are one alternative. Does anyone have some suggestions as to where to buy quality content that comes with a license? Something not too expensive?

    Thanks.

You could have a writer do articles for you , Some charge as little as a penny a word for ORIGINAL content, hows that for piece of mind :)

You also have a lot of people who think if they manually entered the data then it's theirs to do with what they want. And that's just not the case.

Bottom line: When you toy with the low price market, you're giving up certain securities and professional behavior for dirt cheap content.

Sure, pay your penny a word. But, if you get sued over the content, can you take your writer to court or are they hidden in some 3rd world country?

If you possibly can, write the content yourself, then you know it's legit.

Yeah, if you are aware of what should be written, then it is going to be really good for you to write the articles yourself. If you don't have the wording skills and the creative spark in your keyboard, just hire a professional writer.
