Hi all, I would be grateful if anybody could take the time to check out my site and tell me what they dislike the most. In other words; what would you change if it were your site? I take nothing personal so I'd appreciate some brutal honesty here. Thanks for the time, it's the first link in my sig.
Things that annoy me about the site: 1. The logo doesn't link back to the home page - I know you have a 'home' button anyway but I expect a logo in the top left to be a home page link as well. It would take virtually no effort to add one. 2. The text in the body of the page is far too small. I'm fairly young and have decent vision and yet still have to look quite hard to read it. Whack it up to 11px at least, preferably 13 (or better yet make the font sizes relative). 3. Some pages (the one I noticed first was the advertising rates page) look different to all the others and are missing the navigation from the bottom of the page. If you've got a template, you should apply it to every single page. Other than those problems, which are mainly minor things that should be fairly easy to fix, the site looks pretty good.
I agree about the logo part. I always have a tendency to click on the logo to return to the homepage. Also, you should add rollovers to your image links. Sometimes people dont notice the links if nothing changes... Overall, great site though!
Hi Mixposure, thanks for your comments about my site. that's why i thought to look up your site too. and WOW! i'm totally blown away. Sorry, i understand perfectionists like you are only seeking criticisms so you can improve upon whatever it is you have already. but truly, i think you have a great site. can this be done by one person? and though i don't follow music very closely. i gather that your site is a place where independant musicians can promote their music and exchange ideas, right? well, i guess that would be the only thing i can say......if i landed there as someone without a clue, i need to experience something positive and/or be told why i should come back again. Maybe rotate 5 songs a day and play 10 or 15 seconds segments of it when users hit your homepage. Add a flying banner telling music lovers that they can come back to enjoy the vast music content of the site? (rather than wait for them to hit the Listening Room, which to me, is the juice of the site) tell them, if it's true, that this music is not available elsewhere! otherwise, i might get there and just leave without investigating further what the site is about. but the above comments are from the point of view of a consumer, so i don't know if you want repeat visits from this group in the first place.... anyhow, you've got the hits, and membership, and the forum, it looks to be quite a mature site already. congrads!! that's all i can think of off the top o'myhead. sorry i couldn't be brutal. how can you be brutal with something beautiful?
Hello all, I really appreciate the feedback. I've updated the logo to be a link to the home page which was an excellent suggestion. I'll have to go through and make sure that all pages are using the same footer. ncv98, thank you for the kind words and taking the time to check out my site.
Overall it is quite a nice site but there are a couple of things that I really dislike on websites. The font sizes are not relative and the scrollbar colours have been changed to black on black (so I can't find the scrollbar!) Another thing is that the text next to each image is not clickable, only the image is. This is confusing. You could use CSS to keep the text looking the same but make it a link.
Mix, the text next to the images on "What's hot" and "Highlights". I am assuming he meant those because it bothers me as well.
Looks good, I have never been big on the dark background and light text type sites but overall it seems to be pleasent and functional. You could use some work integrating your forums with your mainpages though. If your main pages are fixed width you should consider putting a fixed width table around the forums as well.
I would agree with both of these comments, but also that I find sites that are very long on the home page quite frustrating personally. I prefer compact size pages that I can click through to other pages on rather than a really long scroll all the way to be the bottom.
