Agreed - do not add background music. It's very annoying for your visitors, especially if it takes a long time to load and hangs everything up.

 

yeah it does get a bit annoying sometimes when you go to a site all the time and music starts playing.
if you do have background music, make sure playback controls are easlily accessible so people can stop/pause it or whatever if they want to

I think midi is not bad option or you can try mp3 format.
