Hmm you could choose many colours,
Maybe make the Footer the Same as the Header in terms of the background flipped vertically. Because the Red looks a bit too bright, sometimes a consistent header and footer being the same colour/image has a cool effect.

You may also want to split your sidebar from the content, by adding some red rounded borders around the different items in the sidebar, you may even want to do this for your content.

Those are just some ideas, have a play around and keep your colours consistent, readable and appealing!!

Do you have an idea on where i can get images similar to the one in your header?

I would go with a gradient midnight blue.

Would look very, nice clean and pro.

To be honest? I'd extend your light tan background (behind the content area) all the way to the bottom, then mirror the black against the footer (like how it looks at the top of the page, but flipped over).

You can try out http://istylr.com. It offers you the possibility to swap and even generate (gradient) backgrounds on the fly. This way you instantly see how your page looks like afterwards.
