Hey guys. I have spent quite some time developing this website, and I'd like to know your honest opinion on the website. It's all about customizing your desktop, optimizing your computer, and just learning a bit more about computers in general. If you could give some constructive criticism on how to improve the website, or just your general thoughts on it - it would be greatly appreciated! www.modmydesktop.com Thanks in advanced!
so far I have seen that you are in right direction, everything seemed to be getting so perfect and real you are doing great.
Yeah, great site, i like + design, it's great in consideration of niche, great job here! + I've seen in few pages great backed, and your is great: introducing your community on the mainpage + forum + contact info with map and form + social media on the top right corner + Using HTML5, great thing to future, because of SEO! (... because browsers are supporting HTML5 now) + Youtube videos there isn't a lot of work, everything is done, so let's improve details (i love this part of work, wooohoo!) - div[id="container"]/header/section/a is where you have your logo, I was waiting you have H1 there, but H1 is MISSING!!! Hurry to repair that! Key thing to crawlers! Site crawlers are searching for H1 tag first! More traffic in the future, and so on ... put there this: <h1><a class="logo" href="http://www.modmydesktop.com"><span style="display:none">modmydesktop</span></a></h1> Cheers & God Bless You and Your work!
Thanks a lot for your review, I appreciate the time you took to write it I've gone ahead and changed the logo text, thanks for pointing that out!
I think it's pretty nice. I can't seem to find any problems with the website. It's very user-friendly and it's simple enough. Keep up the good work. If that was my website, I would stop right there and work on the SEO part of things.
You've had to explain what the website is about before letting reviewers see the site. The reason is, it is not obvious once you get on the site. Rather than the video you have, explain what the site is all about. Explain all the benefits of what your site is all about. Then let them browse the site, once they are interested. I saw "How to Use Rainmeter and Install Skins", doesn't mean anything to me, talk in a language that you would to a person. the reason is, a person is reading your site, a casual viewer, they haven't been told what your site is all about before they get on it. Hope this helps
Those videos on the slider are just the 3 latest videos that are uploaded. At the bottom of the page, there is a more detailed explanation of what the site is about. I have moved it to right underneath the video slider. The reason I did that is because I figured people coming from SEPS would be searching for something relevant on the website and not just stroll onto it for no good reason. Do you think it is better now?
You have 3 seconds to capture your traffic. If they're not interested or don't understand in that short space of time you have lost them. Perhaps between the top menu and the slide show you can just have something to tell your traffic what the sites about. For example right at the bottom of the page you have "Mod My Desktop can help you customize your desktop!" that should be at the top. Do you see what I mean? It's a great site, I just don't want you to lose people before they know where they've arrived.
yes, I totally forgot about that, i'm going to repair my few sites. Thank you!Pages like facebook.com, adobe.com, (etc) don't need any description because they are famous. But your web title is saying what is your page about, ... it is clear you don't sell sock ... but I sill with agree with chasdad ... you should add some text anywehere, so not only geek like me could see what is your page about
I like the overall website, clean and simple. However, if I can be brutally honest with you, I don't like the logo and the colour of the logo Just my 2 cents
I'm definitely not an expert and those who have already commented have more knowledge than I do, I'm sure, but I like it overall. It IS clean. The colors aren't my favorite, but that's a personal thing. They're crisp and the design is neat and laid out well. I do agree with some of the other comments that you need to better explain what it is your site does and what it offers, though. If I'm not mistaken, isn't it important for SEO to have your main search terms and site identifiers at the top, or on the top fold, of the page? Maybe a short paragraph or one-liner that describes what you offer... "Tutorials and information to help you customize your computer desktop, optimize your computer, and learn more about computers in general." You have a clean spot for it between your logo and social media icons. Or there's a place for a tagline in a smaller-than-normal font below the menus. Just a thought. But overall, it's obvious you put a lot of work into and it looks good.
I do agree with you. I have been trying to find the right colors for the logo, as I completely redesigned the site - and the logo was made for that design. I agree. I have moved some information around on the index page to more quickly identify the purpose and focus of the site. I will take both your advice and add some kind of tagline or "mission statement" if you will on the site so you see it right away. Thank you for the honest input though, I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me!
open your web so easy .. I really love the look of your web .. I want to learn from the display on your website.
Do you have any suggestions? I wanted to try to give it a simple and clean look so that navigation and readability weren't decreased by effects in CSS3/Java. I'm very open to listening to your suggestions though!
Overall, the website looks very professional and seems to provide excellent content. My only concern is running a html markup validation revealed 19 errors and 1 warning. While these are not urgent issues, fixing them could be beneficial. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=h...(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&group=0
