Absolutely Right. Before this, just understand your audience. Try finding out what your audience is looking for.

Hi - A few technical bits of advice:

    * Create separate Search and Display campaigns.

    * Create separate Desktop and Mobile campaigns.

    * Create campaigns with a country-specific focus (don't advertise worldwide even with a worldwide product).

    * Create campaigns with a language-specific focus. I'm guessing this is English in your case.

    * Create tightly themed ad groups with no more than 10 keywords as a rule of thumb.

    * Start with Exact match keywords if you're new to AdWords. You can expand to Phrase and/or Modified Broad after that. Don't go in with Broad match keywords from the outset.

    * Write ad copy that's relevant to each ad group. Don't use the same ad copy across the board.

    * Send people to the most relevant landing page on your website. This doesn't have to be the homepage.

Good luck! Happy to help if you spend $5k+ a month.
