Apologies if this is the wrong board for this question, it seemed the closest match to me. I'm working on a business card for myself, and essentially I want the tagline to describe what I do in just a couple of words. The only information on the card is my name, tagline, logo & contact info. The services I'm offering are website design, including flash & graphics & limited web programming. I would also take on CD based flash multimedia projects, so don't know if limiting the tagline to say 'web' is a bad idea. The ones I like most so far are: 'creative design' 'web & new media design' 'multimedia design' But none of them really encompass everything. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but if anyone has any suggestions either for a tagline, or on how to come up with one I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for any help!

I'll try to help you a bit here - I've been in your line of work for 11 years It IS very difficult to put it all into one line because you are creative, and you offer creative marketing services which will always change with your knowledge base and service offerings... The best thing to do in my opinion would be NOT to focus on the exact services but rather the bigger picture - "Marketing/Advertising Management" or "Branding Solutions" or "Campaigns That Work!" Great approach there NCMedia. Focusing on results instead of descriptions. Think about what results your customers would want from your work. Another one could be "Maximizing the potential of your Marketing budget" or "More bung for your Marketing buck" or "Creative design that sells products" Hope this helps
Wolfestone, The posts are right on - a general categorization of your business and benefits, benefits, benefits. If you're targeting a particlular industry as your client base it is a bit easier. If everyone is a potential client you're going to spend more time on it. Lets say you are targeting the Landscaping Industry. Just ask yourself this - what are your potential clients wanting? More sales? More leads? If so, then here are two expamples: 'Landscapers - Let Us Turn Your Website Into A Money Machine' 'Landscapers - Let Us Turn Your Website Into A Sales Machine' Bold? Yes they are. But they tell the potential client what you do....and provides what they want.
For the most part, everything you're talking about is graphical. So why not use terms like: Visual Designer/Developer Visual Creativity Creative Visual Conceptions Design Conceptualization Graphic design is a pretty common term, and most people have a fuzzy idea of what a graphic designer does. If you don't fit that fuzzy concept, Use terms that are similar, but different enough that someone will ask "How is that different from a graphic designer?" Just make sure you have an answer ready.
Thanks very much for the advice all - I really like the idea of the 'results' angle. My target market is (unfortunately?) very broad at the moment, potential clients really include anyone who needs a website which I have the required technical skills to create. The biggest results/benefits-related angle which springs to mind is probably an almost obsessive attention to detail. I rarely regard 'close enough' as satisfactory in something I'm working on. While that's probably not always a good trait as far as managing time/budget goes, if I could somehow put a spin on it to convey that trying to have a very high level of 'polish' is something I regard as very important, think that could worth considering? Would something like 'polished digital design' be too vague as far as indicating results goes? I'm having trouble coming up with a desired result which could be applied to general webdesign. I really appreciate the advice, thank you all again.
I think you are better with descriptive tags instead of something obscure like some recommendations here. Just simply tell people what you do.

Ask a teenager, or, for that matter, a younger one what they think works. And you know what, they would simply tell you the above statment. ... Just simply tell people what you do. And who came up with the rule that it has to be only a few words? Simply put your name on the top, put a bullet next to each of the job you do, your URL, and a couple of sentences stating that you are cheap, fast, and good. That's what people are looking for! Your Website will speak for you.
