Looking for Advice on Payment Processing for Gambling Directory

Discussion in 'Directories' started by jg123, Sep 6, 2007.

I am preparing to add a gambling directory (using phpld v2.1) to a gambling blog and I want to hear some ideas on what payment processesing folks are currently using for gambling links. I would want to use a service that allows people to just put in their credit card information (like Paypall does). Please also let me know if there is a phpld mod for the type of payment you are recommending.

    thanks

I think fantastico comes with some support for payment processing. And theres always a dedicated forum to it on DP i think ;)

Never heard of support for payment processing in fantastico, I was hoping to hear about some personal experiences from directory owners that use alternate payment processing.

My advice is do not do it if you are using paypal. Otherwise you will get hit sooner or later.

Ya, I can' figure it out....there are so many directories that accept gambling links I don't understand what the criteria is for breaking PP ToS. BoTW accepts gambling links via PP as do many of the other big, medium and small directories....then you see a few threads where folks get their PP accounts suspended.

The easiest way to subvert paypal is to send invoice to the siteowner after they have submitted the links or asking them to send the payment to your email address after submitting!

I think Malcolm has some gambling directories,he might help you in this case.

I still don't understand how so many are doing it but a few seem to get caught. I wish there was a clear policy on this, I guess I should just contact Paypal and see what they have to say.

I did read a recent post here where someone actually did talk to them about it and they said it was fine to accept gambling related links as long as there was not direct payment for funds for gambling.

Edit your paypal.tpl file and spot the following -

    <input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Link to {$URL|trim}" />

Remove the {$URL|trim} and add your directory name instead.

This is because lets say www.gamblingsite.com purchases a link, by default paypal will show "Link to http://www.gamblingsite.com" . If you remove the URL, there is no way they can catch for what the payment was made.

    regards

I might do that for all my directories but it does help me double check that the sites I approved have paid.

There will be no way to identify which payment was for which listing except doing through the transaction ID in the phpLD admin panel. And i think thats fine enough :)

Have you looked at using 2Checkout.com as an alternative? No merchant account is necessary:

One time set up fee of $49.00 and a 5.5% commission on each transaction plus a $0.45 charge per sale.

And, yes, I've seen it used on phpld.

I guess it is a good alternative but it seems way more expensive then Paypal, double at least.
