    Hello,

I am a 20 year old self taught programmer in Kansas. I spent about 4 months writing a website from scratch. www.bluebeanstalk.com.

I am really happy with how the website turned out, I think I did a good job ( patting myself on the back I know :) )

Anyway, I am not good (at all) with the whole internet marketing thing. I am paying for all the server costs out of pocket, and have spent a lot of time an energy on it.

Does anyone know of any way of getting a grant maybe ... sponsor, etc to pay for some advertising? I need someone to help me out with the whole internet marketing thing.

Let me know, Id really would like to see some income from this site, its taken a lot (a ton) of time to write, and Id like to see some $$ return ( wouldn't we all :) )

    Cheers,

    Ben

It's going to be hard to find someone to just give you money for advertising.

If you did get someone to give you money, what would you do with it? Unless you know what you're doing, paid advertising can be like throwing money out the window. If you don't have a clear plan on how you're going to spend the money and the clear return on investment you're going to get from it, it's going to be pretty much impossible to get someone to give you money.

    I have 2 suggestions.
1.) Learn internet marketing and do it yourself. Forums like this are a great place to start.
2.) JV (joint venture) with someone. Have someone else do the marketing for a share of the profits.

The third suggestion is to hire someone to do marketing for you, but I'm assuming you don't have the money to do that given the tone of your post.

    Thanks for the reply!

You are right, if someone donated money, i would have no idea what to do with it, and would most likely waste it all tinkering with paid advertising, getting nowhere.

I am hoping to find someone that would fit in the category of your second suggestion, a share of the profits.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Nobody would invest in your website because nobody would actually use it, how are you going to compete with ebay and craigslist?

IMO,the thing you need is joint venture.
Mean that, you sell a portion of your website to a partner.
So that you can used the money raised to keep your site going better.

Another way is that you keep on optimizing your website.Since you do well in the code,it's easier for you to do the
SEO.When your website become popular and the PR value is very high, then you can get a good price of it.Or,you
can build a company to design website for others.Maybe you will have a tough begining. But with enough hard work,
clear goal and successful promotion, you'll make it finally.Good luck.

Hi Ben, Marketing, advertising is everything. There are billions of websites out there, and if you don't market it how will people find you? Recommend you take a course in e-marketing and learn the basics anyway. When you are learning this stuff, enjoy it and have some fun. Good luck

If your site has regular visitors and you can provide statistics for it, you sure can sell advertisements on your site for income to help you pay for your hosting expenses.
