I am the founder and co-owner of PeopleQuiz, a trivia site about influential people. Our site has over 1,000 trivia quizzes online with a total of about 10,000 questions. We’ve established a pretty solid user base and currently have about 30,000 unique visitors per month. We’ve recently added some Google Adsense ads to our site and they aren’t doing too well. Adsense has indexed our site as a trivia site, which is natural. However, the majority of our traffic does not come through our front page from folks searching on “trivia.†Most of the folks who find our site simply stumble upon us. Most are seeking information about a celebrity, movie, book or TV show and they happen to trip over one of our quizzes that happens to be on the subject upon which they’re searching. For example, say a person is searching for information on Bill Murray. When they google Bill Murray, they might not find exactly what they’re looking for on him but they might find our quiz on Bill Murray. They click on the quiz, take the quiz and, often, they hop right back off the site. While taking the Bill Murray quiz, the Adsense ads I’d like to see would be on Bill Murray or celebrities or movies, not trivia. If there were ads that read “Purchase Bill Murray’s Movies on DVD†or “Saturday Night Live DVDs,†a user at this page might be more apt to click on one of the ads. However, with most of our quizzes, all we’re getting is ads for other quiz sites! Here’s a quiz on Bill Murray for your observation: http://www.peoplequiz.com/quizzes-2121.html I’d like to have the Adsense ads focus ads on the content of each individual quiz page, not on trivia or quiz sites. On most of our other pages, I’d like the Adsense to focus on celebrities. Does anyone out there have suggestions that might help us apply these changes? Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Or, does anyone know of other ad services that specialize in this type of thing more than Adsense? ie. more focus on page content rather than site content. peoplequiz PeopleQuiz Founder & Co-Owner http://www.peoplequiz.com
you could use adsense sections (search google) in order to focus adsense only on the quizz part, not the header and menus which contain the word quizz. Also, in your url you could include the title of the quizz instead of just a number, this can be done via htaccess and modrewrite make /anything-123456.html translate to /quizzes-123456.html and make links within your site have the title of the quizz in the url as a side note, your ad placement is poor and your CTR must be very low, not only because of the issue you mention. The ads need to be visible without scrolling down. Finally you could register with amazon to be an affiliate and use one of their widget, they will probably always have products related to the personality if you feed the widget the title of the quizz.
I'll have our technician look into a few of your suggestions and hope for some improvement! peoplequiz http://www.peoplequiz.com
Might be a lot of work for you but i would suggest you put a paragraph of content on each page containing the information that you want adsense to target... For example on your Joey Friends Quiz.. you could put a 100 word bio about Matt laBlanc and then use the adsense targeting feature found here... https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=23168 This might help you out.
YOU SAID: "I’d like to have the Adsense ads focus ads on the content of each individual quiz page, not on trivia or quiz sites." WELL:If this is what you want to achieve, you must remember that AdSense Ads are content-based. With this being the case, your first step is to put an optimized content on each of the pages and optimize those pages for the type of ads that you want your pages to display (note: as much as possible, be sure that you do not go overboard on your original site theme). A 4% - 7% keyword density for your pages is I guess OK. The note suggestion is for your site to not become more of an MFA site or force the type of ads you want to appear in your pages, otherwise, you should buy a new domain and put original content and furthermore, your site may suffer a sudden downgrade in rankings . Your contents have to be always relevant to the site theme.
