Hi folks, Its my first post here so a big hello. Right to busiuness, im in the process of setting up my first blog for a site i own. Im looking for a mod that will allow me to put posts in single pages rather than have them displayed on the home page as well. To explain a bot more, the blog i run is for home improvements & diy and I have pages like: DIY Guides, equipment reviews, competitions etc and I would like to be able to post single articels on certain pages rather than have them all apear on my main home page as well as the individual page im worting the articel for?? I hope im being clear with the way im describing that. I've seen it before but for the life of me cant remember what its called. Cheers HWK
You could try making the homepage a static page and then the posts would just show on their individual pages. I think that would accomplish what you want. I believe in the new wordpress version you dont even need a plugin for that.
If I am understanding this....you want to be able to post on multiple pages, not just the home page. I have a suggestion: You can do what you want easily by properly using your categories. 1st: Set your home page to a static page in your wordpress options,(Unless you also want new posts on the home page) so that the same page will display to visitors. 2nd: Set categories: Home Improvement, Contests, etc , and as you write post, remember to check the appropriate box of the category before you publish,and all of the articles for that category will appear when a user clicks them. most blogs are set up this way. Check out how I have mine set up, and see if this is what you are talking about. Or.... you can set which page is the post page (that which displays new posts) in your writing options. It can be any page on your blog that you wish.
I don't understand you... Do you want what hmanshield is saying: post in a blogform on a other page as your front page or do you just want to create extra pages that are not showing up on your blog page???
Sorry im new to this game and probably didnt explain myself very well. I own this site: http://www.ukdiyforum.co.uk/index.php which isnt live yet so i hope the admins of the forum dont mond me posting it yet. You can see that I run several sections to the site including 'guides', 'competitions', 'equipment reviews' etc etc. Id like to be able to put posts in certain pages without them being duplicated on the main home page. So if i wanted to write up a DIT guide id like to be able to post it in the guides page only and not be seen on the home page. That way when my visitors click onto my site they only have to click the diy guides link to read up on the articles I have posted there.
I would make the homepage a static page through the wordpress options menu, and then you can just have your categories pages show the full post and that should be all you need. I hope that makes sense.
Yeah that defo makes sense. So basically if i make my home page a static page then the posts i make will only apear in the catagories i chose from the 'post' menue when wirting the post? Can I also add text to the startic home page though as I would still like to write certain articles for the home page?? I remember a friend using a mod ages ago which allowed home to write posts in certain pages only and they didnt duplicate on the home page. Has anyone else heard or used that mod?
Yes to the first part, but using that method I don't believe you would be able to add multiple articles to the homepage - you could just have the one static article. If you want that, I think what you need is a plugin that allows your homepage to display an entire category.
OK, if you go ahead and set the categories correctly..post your home page stuff normally, and when you post a category specific post, edit the post date, to a random date in the past... the home page only shows recent posts. That way, your category specific posts will go under their specific area, yet leaving only current posts on the posts(or home) page.
Understand what your saying Crynos, and again appologies for the lack of knowledge here, this is my 1st wordpress site ;-) I just remember this mod that allowed you not to have the main page static but allowed you to put posts in a single page of your chosing???
