    I am looking for a web application (open-source or free) that lets users deposit money into their accounts, let's them bid on something the admin has created and also lists the bids.

    I am trying to find a the above type of application so I can customize it to my own needs.

    You can try oscommerce , but you may not get a free freelance programmer to customize it for you.
