I'm new to installing php forums and looking to use one on a website.

Is there a FREE one which is considerd to be the best for

    - ease of installation
    - ease of customisation (such as themes, sub forums etc)
    - flexible user options

    Any advice will be appreciated.

phpBB is very easy to install and customize to fit your websites color scheme. I would recommend them.

phpbb is hands down the best freebie but if you can afford a little bit of $$ vBulletin is tops.
