It's that time again where my web hosting company is nothing but a nightmare, throttling my site, taking it down, doesn't offer any help and can't figure out why cpu usage has spiked. I upgraded to my hosts premium shared plan and that seem to work great for the past year but once the latest Wordpress version came out my usage has pretty much doubled. I recently added a new banner ad plugin and an ad network at the same time. I removed the ad network first which did nothing. I then temporarily deactivated the banner ad plugin but that was also inconclusive. The only thing I can deduct from this is that either the latest version of WP is conflicting with one of my active plugins or my host is falsifying reporting right before my annual renewal is coming up. At this point I have pretty much had it with my current host and looking for a new host. Guessing regular shared hosting might not work but any kind of step up like a premium shared hosting similar to what I use now would work but also looking for a host that also has managed VPS when the time comes in the future when I truly do need to upgrade. I am not a coder and know nothing about operating a server so definitely looking for a host that has managed VPS services. For now though, a host that is lenient with cpu usage on some sort of premium shared plan. Lastly, they must be a web hosting partner with Sitelock listed here https://www.sitelock.com/partner.php which both myself and a friend use for our websites. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I doubt your host is scheming to con you into an upgrade. Wordpress is a big, bloated script. It uses a lot of resources, a number of database queries, add a few plugins, and that Wordpress site may use 200 times or more the resources of serving up a static HTML file. Shared hosting was never intended for sites that consume large amounts of resources. Depending on how much page views you have, your Wordpress-based site may hitting the limits as to what is acceptable on shared hosting. You might be able to get buy with a Business class shared hosting, which many hosts offer. Those plans cost a bit more, but customer densities are lower and they generally allow more resource usage than a standard shared plan. It will depend on your daily page views (including bots) which you have not provided. If you are getting several thousand page views per day, a business shared plan should be sufficient. If you are getting 50,000 a day, a VPS may be more suitable. Check out a business class shared hosting plan. Many hosts have these. As for a VPS, managing one is daunting unless you use something like cPanel which does most/all the server management for you. If you are familiar with cPanel now, a VPS with cPanel will be familiar to you. Upload your files and databaes and do your basic stuff and let WHM/cPanel manage your server for you, perform security updates, and more. And if you find it necessary, a managed host can do your upgrading and stuff for you after you submit a ticket. If you have a managed VPS with cPanel, you really do not need to know much about server administration. A lot of web hosting companies offer SiteLock services that are not listed on that partner page you reference. Just look around the site of any host you are interested in and look for information about SiteLock.
Indeed. ChicagoVPS.net is perfect option for your needs. They have powerful servers and dedicated resources for every vps
Yeah, and I probably wouldn't recommend ChicagoVPS, either. Look around for a host using Xen or KVM. Xen is probably the most reliable, especially where CPU allocations are concerned.
If you have such a good experience with them, please share your URL hosted with them and how long you are with them, That would help others to trust your recommendation more. thanks
Well, as I see you can rely on chicagovps.net solutions. Their servers are solid and support is polite
It's so hard to select genuine recommendations from all of these treads.. You may have to check external review sites additionally. Start from the most trusted website Trustpilot . Cheers!
Business class hosting would be a good way to as you transition from shared to a low end VPS when you are ready. Fully managed and SSL + IP equipped business hosting plans are becoming more popular. Shared users usually enjoy the performance, specs and management.
I've seen totally similar post somewhere but surely, it's true, VPS hosting can be considered as the next level of the quality, performance and availability while upgrading from shared one.
