Hi. My name is Ron and I am a student at the University of Texas. Anyway, I was looking for someone who makes a decent amount of money online and would like to 'take me under their wing' and 'show me the ropes'. I am a hard worker and am willing to learn. I know a fair bit of webdesign and PHP. Maybe there will be something I will be able to help you with sometime in the future? Please PM/e-mail/respond on this thread if you are willing to take your precious time and help me! Worth a shot eh?
Hehe, i posted something like this and i got the same response, but since i've been taking that approach i think i'm getting further, so while getting someone to help is good, its also good to just get on out there and learn yourself.
That's what forums are for... Do what you can and just post here for help. People will happily help you.
It's not a master you're looking for. You're looking for friends. Well, you them here in DP. We're always willing to help but you will also need to put in a lot of effort yourself. Good luck!! --Joe
Lol, yeah that's true. My only problem is I don't have a niche. No hobby. I don't know what to design about. I know the technicals, but I lack creativity, lol. Maybe this stuff isn't for me...
My first piece of advice is see if you can work on your universities website. Then come here and sell us links on it.
Now that's a thought!!! You will get more selling .edu links then you ever will with a prwhatever site. (within reason of course)
Yeah, I thought about that as well. BUT... In the terms and services for using university webspace, it states that I can't use the webspace for advertisements or making money. I suppose, however, that I could make a blog and then 'write articles' about websites? eh eh?
You can't possibly be so broke that you can't afford $9 a year for a domain + free hosting at GoDaddy. I think they're also suggesting you do work on the university's web-sites. Universities are more likely to hire newbs because they pay so little. That will get you experience that will help you land better jobs in the future.
Not spamming my own stuff, but, I started a blog about 2 months ago about what I know and like, House Music. I have a true passion for it and have been a listener, a DJ, and purchaser for over 15 years. Not to mention many years in the Club Industry in Miami, and Las Vegas. Writing that blog is not a job, it's a pleasure. I can't wait until my business day is done so that i can update it, learn more about marketing it through social networking, and make it better. It's fun for me. Everyone has something like that, that really gets their engine running. Start with something you love, and you will strive to learn the technical stuff while doing it to make it better, and your passion will show in the content and the application. JMO
"WebSpace is a file storage and Web publishing service provided by Information Technology Services (ITS). This system is offered as a resource in the pursuit of University-related business (education, research, service and personal noncommercial use as allowed by UT). For example, you may use WebSpace to store copies of important documents, such as homework, and publish a personal Web page. WebSpace is funded by ITAC fees, and there are no additional charges for basic service."
I have a few domains and they are hosted at dreamhost.com But I thought people were referring to selling links on a .edu webspace. I don't know. Like selling links to this page: my UT webspace
lol...we should all start a small university just so we can have a page... but yeah, just to restate what everyone else has said... There are tons of really helpful people here on DP, so get involved and you will quickly find the help you need... and about finding a niche...you said you don't have a hobby...that's CAN'T be true...everyone likes SOMETHING...
My Blog has been around 2 days and its getting good hits, i am just writing about my life, from the new businesses i've launched to the wet messy floors in my apartment, LOL, i write about it all and via networking i've generated some good responses.
The fastest and cheapest thing I can suggest you to start something like proxy site, arcade site or directory .. Once you fall into the things .. you will learn on your own. If you don't have creativity, don't worry .. you will start getting new ideas once you step into these things. so, forget about looking for an online boss and be your own boss and start anything .. keep browsing sites for sale forum and you will have 10 new ideas everyday. Then choose the one which is closest to your interests and priorities. Then collect information about it and start one ... may be you fail 1-2 times, but I assure you if the statement above you made that you are hardworking is true .. you will be making some good money in 4-6 months ... Good luck!
