What is your main purpose of getting a laptop? To use in class, design websites, gaming, etc? You should look into this before deciding.

    Sony VAIO are pretty good..

In my opinion you cant get better than a Sony Vaio, but they are also quite expensive. HP also arnt bad, but i would recommend the Vaio's

BEST PC laptop ever. Comes with great programs. I think they're the best desktop computer IMO as well (I got one and it came with so many userful programs that I love! After 2 years, it's still working great). I say quality over price... but some people think otherwise.

 Which one do you have? I paid 2k for my Satellite one and... WOW: it shuts off randomly because it overheads... (the fan is blocked on the bottom so I have to mount it up on "pillars") It's only been a year..

A Toshiba Portege, M100 I think, and I got my brothers to get 2 different ones too, with no problems for them or me. I had mine for over 3 years, and not the slightest problem (the fan is at the back and shoots out air sideways).

It's a tablet, although it was quite a waste of money for me because I don't really use it that much, but hey, at least I know now!

For you it's time to test Toshiba's customer after sales service...;)

I saw the funniest thing today @ wal-mart..."personal box fan". It was about as big as a LT...just set your LT on there...of course you'd be typing at eye level!

seriously though, have you ever looked into a LT cooler? I used to have one for my old Stinkpad...worked well.

What were you doing at walmart?

I forgot to mention that this laptop is a 17" one and is quite heavy compared to others!!! It'll need a whole air conditioning machine to cool it off lol

Tim, even if I get an extra fan, where do I put it? On the bottom of my laptop? Impossible? I don't want it blowing on my hair while I'm using it lol

I saw a nice pad that not only isn't too thick, but it has 3 fans (apparently almost silent), and it's kind of lighted, so you don't need a light on in the dark.

I think it was on ebay...I might get it for this summer.

lol, ( that one was out loud) - the LT coolers are pretty thin to begin with...it would not ruffle your skirt or your hair!

not sure if they make them as big as you need it though...my old LT was much smaller.

anyway - something for you to research! either that or just strap some dry ice to the intake valve of your fan!!

lol..I am using Toshiba from last 4 months.. and i feel like its the best investment i have ever done..

No one will give you 3 year onsite international gurantee but hey "Toshiba" offers it!!!

Because they know there machine's are time tested and have best quality..

But if you are looking at cheap solution go for compaq. and if medium then HP.

Vaio is slightly costly than toshiba but these are delicate machines.. I mean it will need much more care. :p
Toshiba machine's are tough and i have even read some reviews about Toshiba's saying " Almost bomb proof machine's ".

Other thing i like about toshiba is there professional looks.. :p I have seen people having HP's and Compaq's getting bored with them and they think there laptop's look like toys.. :D

I have got a HP Notebook for 1 and a half years now. I think you better can get a Desktop. When you look at my notebook:
    - I can't play a game because the Graphicscard is to bad.
    - It crashes all the time.
    - When i use Photoshop to design i must wait till it is finished with the previous action.
    - It startsup in 40 minutes now :S

So if you look at the same laptop (HP Pavilion dv4000) Don't buy it. :( i hope you get a good Laptop.
