It sounds like you are really setting up an "Arts and Entertainment" kind of site, but from a fan perspective for a "real world" universe (as opposed to, say, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc., which usually also necessitate some form of fan fiction support).

You could literally use ANY high-end CMS to accomplish this. In fact, due to your requirements, I would suggest you use a CMS as opposed to a simple script, especially considering you want filmography, news and video. A CMS will give you the flexibility to restructure and make any other desired changes on the fly. A CMS also has built-in user management and access levels so you can control who gets to see or do what on your site. A script that is "hard coded" for all this may not be so easy to change over time.

Out of the box, most CMS won't have all of these features built in, so you can readily "plug" them into your CMS and turn them on (yeah, a little over simplified but you get the idea).

You'll want to choose a CMS that has a strong developer base, a large and active user community, and loads of plugins to choose from. If you are strong technically, and aren't afraid of a learning curve, you may want to check out Drupal. Otherwise, you probably should check out WordPress/WordPress Multiuser (MU); both are merging into one project, so you can choose either version, but some suggest classic WP is better for beginners.

WordPress has the largest single plugin library I've ever seen - around 5,000 or so. The commercial plugins, should you need any, are very reasonably priced (at least compared to those of other systems).

I hesitate to suggest Joomla, but I'll list it just to be fair, with a caveat that the new 1.5 version does not yet have nearly the number of plugins as the original 1.0 version. My experience has been that the kind of site you are suggesting (and I've had to work on this for another person) is kinda tricky to do in Joomla well.

    That said...

Have you evaluated any CMS software? Have you used any? If you haven't done so already, you may want to head over to Open Source CMS (opensourcecms.com) and use the extensive online demo library to "play" with various systems and see if there is anything you like.

    Hmm....

I have never seen a fan-specific script such as the one you're seeking, to be honest. You could search Hotscripts (hotscripts.com) and other script repositories. However, it's been my general experience that the more specific you get, you will either have to have a custom script done, or use a CMS with plugin architecture to accomplish this kind of goal.

You can use Drupal, it used by official sites of Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Metalica, Britney Spears, Avvril Lavigne, J-lo, R.E.M, Emmy Award etc.
