Hello everyone, I am looking for a decent hosting provider for my WordPress blog. I used to have it on GoDaddy, but speed was crap and costs were high. So I decided to find someone else. I am looking for: Good hosting (cPanel, HTTPS support etc.) Not too expensive, but not too cheap either Are operating for at least 5+ years Is not owned by EIG Few things I would like to point out to some users here: I will IGNORE users' replies that represent a hosting provider. I want biased opinions from customers. In order words, any form of advertising will be ignored. I will IGNORE users with low post count. I know it sounds ironic given that I am a new user myself, but new users could be alt accounts of hosting representatives. I know it sounds rough, but I want honest answers from actual clients who used a service. Thanks! Rare Pepe
Well, maybe some of the hosting providers actually know better than some of the users? After all, it is what they do for their bread and butter. Hosting a WordPress site is basic. Any decent hosting should be able to accommodate that. If you can't trust any, maybe go for one that seemingly meets your requirement and offers a money back guarantee. You can pay on a monthly term just to be safe, and claim your money back guarantee if it does not work out as expected.
"Hosting a WordPress site is basic. Any decent hosting should be able to accommodate that." It's not a matter of just being able to accommodate. It's a matter of doing it well. If you're looking for a decent WordPress host for a regular blog, I'd go with SiteGround probably - their WP specific plan that is $7.95 specifically. They have a cheaper plan, but it doesn't come with their caching tech that makes the $7.95 and up plans much faster than you find at big name hosts like GoDaddy and all of the garbage EIG hosts. I use them for one of my blogs, and as my sandbox. I have my business sites up on more expensive managed hosts, although from what you say I'm gathering that this isn't what you're looking for. Lightning Base is super fast, uses cPanel, has grrreat tech support (just by email and sometimes by live chat, during business hours), etc - but has somewhat low traffic limits per dollar / more geared toward small to medium sized business sites rather than blogs. I've read good things about Dreamhost, but SiteGround is faster in my testing. If you want to make sure your site can scale quickly, then I'd go with a cloud VPS - I like Cloudways for that. You can ignore this post because I just started this account when I came across this post if you want - I get why you'd be hesitant. I just started a little side/passion project to try and build an actually objective, evidence-based host ranking system, since I run into so much misinformation and BS. I've done a bunch of testing so I can refer my clients to good hosts, and the hosts I recommend above are among the few that are actually solid. I won't spam you with links to my site, but if you feel like reading some of the information I've shared, just google my user name - the site is only about half finished, so apologize for the mess if you do.
Coming from GoDaddy I would be dismayed as well. Obviously EIG companies are packing accounts onto shared servers and not really giving an adequate or skilled level of support. I personally host my WordPress blog with managed WP hosting through Nexcess.net. They own their own data centers in Michigan, offer 24/7 support, and have a skilled and helpful staff. The base price is higher than an EIG company would be, about $12 a month for the lowest shared plan, but obviously you get what you pay for with those $5 hosting plans. You mention cPanel, but they offer InterWorx, which is just as user friendly.
I punted a ton of hosts in my day. Mostly all ultimately owned by EIG. Hell, even gigantic hostgator was pretty good back in the day. I have been using these folks for the last 4 years or so. https://www.iwfhosting.net/ They are not huge but own all their equipment, have multiple data centers and so on... More noteworthy, I have been talking to the same 3 people the entire time! They are really very nice and capable folks. hope that helps, Nigel
Nigel Lew, Are they the original hosting provider or a hosting services reseller? What are their security measures and server backup protocols?
Yes, they are the original provider. They own all their equipment in the data centers. They certainly have back ups. I only have a handful of clients I sent them that have a shared or reseller plan. Most of my clients require their own VPS so I wind up handling security myself. My big thing with them is that I have been talking to either Jacob , Evan, or Tim for years. Usually Jacob or Evan who literally run the show. I don't even really have ticket times with them. They just fix stuff immediately. There is no front line support reading from a script if you will. You get an actual engineer on live chat or in a ticket. hope that helps. Nigel
Beyond finding which web hosts are out there, it’s a matter of digging through different plans, comparing inclusions, and checking customer reviews.
When selecting cheap website hosting, be sure that the web host provider is trustworthy. Try to ask around people about their perceptions on the web host company. What they can say about it?
Look for a Host with LiteSpeed the LiteSpeed plugin (a.k.a LSCWP) makes Wordpress fly when you get a deluge of visitors. If the host also provides/supports ElasticSites (so you can scale up the power if neccessary) that's a plus!
I have tried several web hosting providers but non of them beat hostwinds litespeed ssd hosting. Use the coupon code: 50OFF16 for 50% off their first month.
You can go for the managed WordPress hosting provided by ZNetLive. They have been into operation since last 16 years and are aware of the industry patterns and product demands. Their WordPress hosting comes powered by Plesk Onyx control panel and powerful hosting features. They ensure 99.99% uptime for your WP site and provide complete support. Visit their official website to know more: https://www.znetlive.com/wordpress-hosting/
For different package is different, according to what kind of website you want to build, the higher price is not always better, suitable is best.
You can choose A2 Hosting for that. It has cPanel, prices start at $3.92/month. The company was founded in 2001, so I think it is safe to put your eggs in that basket. And if we're talking about being owned by EIG, well... https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/does-a2-hosting-support/are-you-owned-by-endurance-international-group.
