I advice you that,you collect only those keywords which helps your site visible on Google,then check the competition of that keyword.and then choose only those keywords which is having low competition,then move on to middle competition keywords.
keep working ,SEO is not a fast process keep patience you get the results.

Don't worry... Some sites just don't show up after 2 months of work and when you are hopeless then it suddenly starts appearing at page 2 or 3...

This happened to me before, so don't worry about that.... Don't Push and Pings or anything like that on your backlinks which alert flags for Google and for your website... Just continue building links and you will see the results soon....

Currently I am working on one site which have also a very competitive niche.... Some links appeared before in Google Webmaster Tools and stayed there for 2-3 days then vanished and after a week they appeared again....

So that is quite natural....

Make sure you are Using Webmaster Tools and Under Traffic Option you will find Search Queries... This will show you which of the search terms your website is appearing for...

Dude, let's be frank, if you need to ask why you can't rank for "SEO company California" and how can you rank for "SEO company California" then you clearly don't deserve to rank high on page 1 for that search term simply because you don't know how to do so!

High rankings are earned by proving you deserve the ranking.

 

And your on-page optimization should be perfect, analyze every element of on-page optimization carefully.
Never give up, ranking may fluctuate as well but you have to work continuously.
Try to get relevant traffics, it also helps in SEO.
Put fresh content regularly for better result.
