Longtail, Short or a mix of the two?

Discussion in 'ClickBank' started by edrectory, Apr 5, 2009.

Alright, I'm kind of new to ClickBank marketing. I tried it like a year ago, ran a site for like a week expected somehow to get "magic traffic" and make loads but hey, it failed. Anyway, after making my first $20 the other day I wanted to move onto a new niche. A niche I could promote as smaller niches. So I chose the Natural Remedies niche. I've set up 4 landing pages for each of these products: yeast infection, acne, tinnitus and panic attacks. I plan to use a variety of free marketing methods to promote this using things such as; article marketing, youtube videos, hub pages, social bookmarking etc. My question is... what sort of key words should I be using? Short key words? Long tail keywords? Or a mix of the two? Should I be incorporating price related words in the keywords or title, e.g "cheap", "inexpensive" etc?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Well, long-tail keywords are always the best option, but obviously, make sure that they are likely to convert and get decent search volume.

I'd say a mix of everything, depending on your approach. For something like article marketing, there's not much point trying to rank for big keywords like "acne", or "yeast infection". BUT, you can go for mid-level keyprases with 3-5 words in. Specific questions that people might have about curing problems, or about particular types of cure they may have heard about.

Price is an awkward thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In general, I'd say don't bother. If you're running PPC ads, it can be beneficial to weed out freebie seekers.

Alright, thanks for the tips :), What would you call a decent search volume for a long tail keyword when for e.g. acne is searched roughly 400,000 a month?

Personally I'd aim for 10K and upwards. If you collect a list of 50 keywords (one page per keyphrase in a minisite, for example), you're on for 500K total monthly searches.

    agree with TigerPublishing..

also, remember to check your competitor for your keyword that you are trying to optimize.... if page 1 is full of PR5-7 sites, you may want to try other keywords first.

    basically he's meaning :

    - choose a keyword, setup a page for it
    - choose the next keyword, setup a page/article dedicated to that

    and repeat :)

Build more than one lander. if xxxxxxxx.com is your lander then make xxxxxxxx.com/keyword and so on. Or you can use subdomains keyword.xxxxxxxx.com

In competitive niches long tail keywords are the only chance you will get traffic, so really you don't have much of a choice.

So lets say my lander is personal account preselling the product, how then do I make another lander with a different keyword and change the personal account preselling the product?

I suspect that people suffering with yeast infections, panic attack aren't usually searching with a word like "cheap" or "inexpensive" in it. When you have one of these problems, you almost don't care how much it cost. You just want to know what really works.

Since long tail is all you could squeeze to the top with these days, I would think phrases similar to these might be worth checking out:
-- most popular cures for acne
-- testimonials for clearing up acne
-- natural way to cure acne
-- how to cure yeast infections fast
    -- has cured yeast infections
-- what is a yeast infection
-- symptoms of a panic attack
-- best way to cure panic attacks
-- best treatment for panic attacks

    Just my thoughts ;-0

long tail keywords are only good if they are converting keywords .. i usually like the short tail keywords because of the amount of traffic ..but i m The SEO guy i work hard n smarter to eat my competition alive ... n i always make sure that my market is as not saturated as credit card or loans type ...so it really depend on yo market
    ex:
For credit cards for example i ll opt for long tail keywords such as online credit card application

but weight loss products like acai ... i ll take short keywords like acai berry or acai juice or acai secret they still competitive but if you work smarter the results show up pretty fast

so if you try n type in acai berry ... im third in google acaiberrysite . com fighting against 8,9 millions
