Longer Time in Google Index = Better Rankings?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by peppy, Aug 17, 2009.

I wrote up about 50 pages and they all got indexed by Google a few weeks ago. I noticed I am not ranking for these pages right now though.

Does Google improve your rankings over time? For example, if I don't touch this website any more and my pages sit for a few more months in the index, will I gradually get better rankings for those pages just because of some age factor?

The plus factors achieved from aging will not be enough alone to push you up. You will need a continuous supply of incoming links and also updating the content every so often is important.

I would say you will probably notice an aging difference in the early stages but in a years time the other factors such as no links in the past 6 months or no updates will result in your site going down the rankings.

Age does help with a domain. But as mentioned so do many other things.
If you are referring to your blackjack site then you will have to hit as many avenues as you can because the competition is fierce for this niche.
One thing that helped me when I had a poker site was getting a listing at pokerlistings.com.
Actually they ended up buying the site from me in the end but they will supply you with articles and other things that can help you. You just have to ask.

The best of luck to you!

Thanks for the pokerlistings.com idea! I've heard of them before but I never knew they would put my link on their site. I'll have to look into this and polish up a few other sites for their directory too.

Domain age is hardly a factor anymore, but the site age is a very big factor. The regular update factor though is an unfounded myth so far. You can rank for ages without updating.

Above all, links are the key.

Age factor will help but not as much as targeted backlinks.

Create more dofollow anchored keyword backlink from related sites and watch your serp ranking increases.

I don't believe that leaving the blogs will help you. Do some continuous SEO.

With the caffeine update, google is going to pay a lot of attention to age of a site.
