I'm just curious if long URLs can hurt my positions in Google or any other negatives

For example, a full URL containing about 100 chatacters.

Keyword rich url is always better. However its a general SEO practice keeping the url under limit.

Well that's why they bookmark or just go to the homepage of my site to find the page they wanted.

I just wanna know how bad it could hurt me if some of my pages have long URLs. I'm using sh404SEF for in Joomla and my URLs are all very descriptive using the full titles of my articles and sections.

    example: sitename.com/index.php/Other-money-making-opportunities/Make-money-with-example.html

Usability point of view the url should be shorter, I guess google may suspect a long url because it looks spammy.

why should you make a long url? if it is file name then that would be good for seo purposes. what you should put in your url is your major keywords only. for example if it about golf put golf, tips, technique or lesson in the url. three words is enough so your visitor could easily remember. by doing this your site has growth potential. you can target golf swing tips, beginner golf tips, golf swing technique, golf improvement techniques. and this is emphasized by the homepage title. so in the beginning your homepage can target different long tail keywords and once it has high PR and a lot of backlink then it could compete with for "golf swing" and "golf technique" and when the page rank getting stronger and the backlink is huge then it can compete for "golf". growth potential is the key for URL.
