Hi all I've come across some great posts about links on this site. However, a lot of thought seems to be focussed on short to medium term strategies. I'm of the opinion that whilst it may be possible to continually exploit loop holes in the current google algorithm, in the long term, google will end up ranking good quality sites in the SERPS. (Think how far google has come in a relaively short period of time.) I'm about to launch a new site and am keen to develop a linking strategy for the long term. - Does anyone have any thoughts on what a log term strategy should entail? Thanks
Take it from a relevant site which is thematically relevant to you. this would surely pay. Well, you could go for article, directory and blog for permanent links. Social bookmarking sites are good place to fetch traffic. And hey how can we forget forums.... like Digi....
These are the methods he was trying to avoid. OP, long term strategies include high quality content, and highly linkable content like useful tools.
Hi Buddy this is are great qestion, I think starting from link directories submission, Blogs and Articles. This can boos your site in the long run. To maintain the mometum I think u must continuously post press release, bookmarks each time ( may be every month or so) with different fresh high quality content, but still in your niche market. Not even forgetting to put some videos at some other time. Continuosly sending mail to other good sites requesting link exchange, monitoring the value of your link partners, commenting on forum ( not forgetting signature) and other discussion of your niche market.
I think this is an incredibly relevant topic for discussion, great question. As the Google algo progresses, it seems more and more focused on returning great content over anything else... all of the factors that go into determining things like page rank, SERP results, etc. seem to be robotic ways to judge the value of the content on site. (In the case of backlinks, it's quanifying webmaster judgment.) I think the best long-term strategy is to really believe that content is king. Make your site worth visiting and engage in typical short to medium-term linkbuilding. Your "strategy" will never be antiquated by the Google algo if you give it what it wants.
A long term link building strategy can be based on good, linkable content. But people will still have to get their eyes on this content, before they can link to it. So a long term strategy needs to include interaction. Interaction comes in many different shapes and sizes: Blogging, commenting on blogs (not comment spamming for links, but real commenting), forum activity. The idea is to establish yourself as a known participant in your industry (perhaps even as an authority). In addition to this, consider using some of the usual DP link building strategies for the short-medium term, since this interaction strategy takes a while.
Great feedback. Its taken me a couple of years to realise that as a business a site needs to really offer something to their end users. It's far too easy to think short term and focus solely on link building. Yes, you may well do well on the SERPS, but as a long term business strategy it will become a constant fighting battle. In my mind Google is only going to get better in the coming years at sorting the wheat from the chaff. Good sites will ultimately rank well, even for long tail searches. I think the key lies in remaining focussed on good content. Yes, a solid medium term linking strategy using is required to ensure the site has the opportunity to get into the public domain.
Look for quality sites in your niche. Try to work out deals for link exchanging or guest posting there. These links have a lot more weight than directory submissions, article directories, etc.
