I have written an article about ranking for long tail keywords and their benefits including: easy traffic, less competition, higher conversions and lower bounce rate.

This technique has also helped to increase the eCPM of some of my pages to $100!

Read the article here - Long Tail Keywords.

The long tail keywords is easy to dominated and have high conversion rate. So I focus the long tail.

I like your style. ;) I do the same. From long tail keywords I can reach $100 eCPM compared to my usual $5 eCPM.

Arr matey. I pretty much live on longtail.
The only issue is when they get too "out there". Example. A site I have on a smokable herb(no, not pot, nothing illegal). Incoming searches
    "SWALLOWED TIN FOIL EMERGENCY"
"HOW LONG DOES CRACK COCAINE STAY IN YOUR SYSTEM"
Oddly, most of those words weren't in the site. Must've been some odd ass linking.
(and yes, those searches were all in caps)

Let's say you've got a site based around cell phones. Good luck trying to rank it. Now, if you expand the words you use and all, and have a lot of keyword combinations that bring up your site, THAT is long tail.
So instead of getting queries for "cell phones"
you get "buy cell phones with an analog switch"
or even "buy cell phones with an analog switch in new jersey"

It's pretty simple, just targeting more specific keywords like 'Naruto Wallpapers' rather than 'Naruto', it's far easier to rank and the visitors get exactly what they want. Or you can get more long tail than the example above by targeting keywords such as 'Naruto and Sasuke Wallpaper' rather than 'Naruto Wallpaper'.

long term definitely. The main advantage is that you can easily get your website ranked on these keywords and the traffic you get is very targetted so that means you get high conversion which means you earn more by doing less work. You can do one thing first of all get your website ranked on the long term keywords and then once you are set and dominating there after that you can aim for more traffic by ranking on the short term keywords. This means that you are dominating the whole niche.

Every once in a while you should throw in long tail anchor texts, but make sure to focus on one important short tail keyword as well so you can work on a long term goal, like 'Naruto' for me.

Longtail keywords have less competition as compare to the short tail keywords. These gave you as well long term benefits. These should be relevant to your site and gives visitor a good idea about site content.

    Nice article..

I currently work on one short tail keyword and two long tail keywords. Once the the long tail keyword is to the top 3 spots I switch them for different ones. The same for the short tail keyword.

Here is an example. ‘Credit Cards‘ is the general keyword topic and long tail keywords within this niche includes terms such as the following:

    * credit cards for people with bad credit
    * list of low interest credit cards
    * benefits of small business credit cards
    * good canadian credit cards for students

These long tail keywords are actual search queries, therefore optimizing your site and creating content to match these search queries will allow you to attract visitors who search for information via these and similar search terms.

Logical speaking, visitors type long tail keywords more than short term keywords.

For instance if you have mobile phone related sites, most of the user will type

    Mobile Phone review

    Latest Mobile Phones

    Buy cheap mobile phones

    and many more

I think it is brilliant. I have actually been doing that for a while now for financial reasons and had no idea there was a name for it. Thanks for putting it into a framework for me. Great article!
