Your website should be looking to rank high for short tail keywords as tis is what people tend to search for. As a term gets more long tail, the less frequently that term will be searched as people will add in different words etc...

It is still great to get long tail traffic from the content on the site, but you dont target long tail terms as such.

Also, how to start an online business is more of a short tail term.

Long tail keywords are easier to rank your website! Also people/visitors who search for long keywords know exactly what they want and higher the chances to convert these visitors into leads and then into customers!

no one can guarantee it to you. your site must be indexed first. After that, think about ranking

First - I would like to tell you that long-tail keyword does exist but I have never heard of short-tail keyword, it does look like a common keyword so I assume short-tail keyword = keyword.

Second - I would recommend you do this keyword strategy. Short-tail keyword / Main keyword for homepage and long-tail keyword for inner pages. If you have done properly you would get both traffics to inner pages as well as trust on overall website.

I agree with Sxperm. Build pages for both main keywords and then long tail keywords. Of course, if you are just beggining expect to get more traffic from long tail keywords.

Traffic-wise, 8 of my top 10 keywords are exactly two words long, and they bring about 11% of my search engine traffic. After my top ten, the percentage of longer-tail keywords goes up substantially in the traffic count. But throughout the keyword/traffic list, there are lots and lots of two-word keywords.

The long term keyword, should have at least 2,000 GMS ( google keyword tool data) and the search results ( competition) should relay back no more than 70,000 results.

    Keywords within quotation marks!

This should get your webpage/wordpress page within the top 10 results?

Am trying this out, and will post the results.
