Long tail keywords or short keyword? and why? For beginners

As you might already know that Google prefers long-tail keywords over short keyword but you may not know the reason behind it.
Here I will give you an example of why long-tail keywords are more preferred over short keywords.
    Take example,
If you want to learn to make french fries at home,
You'll always search "How to make homemade french fries or How to make french fries at home" (Long-tail keyword)
and probably will not search "homemade french fries" (short keyword).
As you can see, in this example how the long-tail keyword is more focused and specific about what user needs. And the short keyword is just a name of french fries made at home, user intentions here are not clear to the google.
As Google is now focusing more user intention to give more advanced and focused results so longtail keywords are preferred.

People speak their search phrases more often now (as opposed to typing them) and it will only become more predominant. So, yes, long tail keywords / phrases is the way to go.

Google doesn't prefer anything. Its just that every short kw has a very steep competition compared to long tail keywords, so they are easier to rank. And also long tail kw's reflects the actual page intent so its easy for Google to direct the users searching for it, to it.

Long tail keywords get less search volume but will generate the bulk of your traffic.

Long tail keywords will be better because its KD is lower than short tail keywords. This means you will be able to rank top these keywords easier than short tail key words.

    You are right.
As qwuikad said, now with the increasing trends of voice search long tail keywords are increasingly becoming mainstream.

From my experience, I can say that long tail keywords can drive 80% of the search traffic. so instead of obsessing about keywords, one should obsess about the users and being relevant to them and google will love you automatically.
Modern search engines focus on topics, not on single keywords. If you want to get high rankings for a particular keyword, you must make sure that your whole website is relevant to the topic of that keyword.

Focusing on long tail keywords is a great SEO tactic. Long tail keywords are keywords or key phrases that are more specific – and usually longer – than more commonly searched for keywords. Long tail keywords get less search traffic, but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific. They allow you gradually to get more traffic and to be found by new and motivated audiences.

Short keywords are usually competitive and broad that's why long tail keyword phrase would be the best way to target your specific audience in the field.

The easiest way to think about long term keywords, is to think about what would a person naturally type into the search bar when trying to find something. The more you can do it this way, the closer you will get to finding a good one.
Also it's important to remember long tail keywords need to make sense, flow and be as natural as possible not just for search engines but to the people reading your content as well.

I would long tail everything. As a rule of thumb, you get less traffic, but there is way less competition for your words so ranking comes quickly. Then you want quality long tails, hopefully ones that are link to what your site converts best on. This will increase sales faster than fighting a smaller word that is more common.

Long tail keywords are like users' mind voice. We also raise how users will search for the query. so, Long-tail is preferrable. As of now, it has low competition but high volume

Short-tail keywords are much more general search queries consisting of one or two words, while long-tail keywords consist of three to five or even more words. When looking for keyword suggestions, novice online marketers can be tempted to go solely for short-tail keywords, since these terms often hold the most traffic.
