Long or Short Domain Names?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by Kowmung, Dec 28, 2023.

They say that short domain names are better, and they are often easier to use.
Longer domain names give a chance to describe what the site is about. Longer names seem to rank better in Google because they are searchable.
I know some long ones that work well like: southcoastcarsales (not a promotional link)

    What do others think?

Short domain names are typically preferred for their simplicity and ease of use. However, longer domain names have the advantage of being descriptive and conveying the purpose of the website. In terms of SEO, longer domain names can potentially perform better in Google as they are more likely to contain keywords that users search for. Ultimately, the choice between short and long domain names depends on the specific goals and priorities of the website owner.

Short domain names are most recommended, as they are easy to remember, & the type of browser. This strategy can be crucial for driving direct traffic to your website.
On the other site, generally finding the longer domain options is easier. You have more flexibility and potentially lower cost.
Picking either short tail or long tail domain is not entirely accurate. Content quality, user experience are now quite important parameters than domain type.

I think it is better to have a short domain name because he is easy to remember and spread. But there are some longer domain names that are also easy to remember because they are already well known. But when you start a brand new domain name it is better to have a short domain name.

I think it depends on your goals. Short domains are great for branding, easy to remember, and look clean. However, longer domains can be useful for SEO if they include relevant keywords.

For example, a short name like "TechHub.com" is perfect for building a strong brand, but a longer one like "BestLaptopsFor2024.com" might attract more search traffic.

In the end, it’s about finding the right balance between simplicity and relevance.

There are pros and cons to both long and short domain names, the best approach depends on your specific business needs and branding goals.

If you have a descriptive long domain name such as catsthatareblackandwhite.whatever it might be an advantage but short domain names are generally best

Short names are definitely better, but more expensive. Maybe try to get a domain that is a common keyword in your niche. For example, we are "SaveFiles". Short, 2 words, but still a decent keyword.
