Very interesting. I was never actually trying to profit from LonelyGirl15, just observing how the LonelyGirl15 creators handled it. The YouTube demographic is about as reliable as the MySpace demographic.
I'd bet lonelygirl15 is one of several projects; or is designed simply to get the company on the "map" so they can point to lonelygirl15 as their ability to get publicity or brand awareness. monetizing lonelygirl15 directly was probably not the original intent. I never even heard of lonelygirl15 before you started this thread. Don't get what the fuss is over people making videos and posting them online. Seems stupid to me.
It was a great marketing stunt, generated millions of views on a very low budget ... ah the power of web2.0 lol also I have lonelygirl15.co.uk for auction (shamless plug)

I was watching this stuff when it was still fresh and people were unsure about wether it was real or fake. Brilliant hoax.
I don’t have time to watch stuff like lonelygirl15 but I do think this might be the future of modern entertainment. Why wait for Hollywood to make decent shows when you and your buddies can just as well make one yourselves???
Not quite the frontpage, but LonelyGirl15 did make the NY Times: Trying to Figure Out How Much Tease Is Too Much
I hadn't really paid any attention to the LonelyGirl15 saga lately, but it looks like an offshoot ARG called cassieiswatching is underway: http://cassieiswatching.myfreeforum.org/ftopic29.php
