LOL @ Domainers who try to get rich off one domain

I'm seriously getting a little fed-up of companies who buy every fricking domain on the market and then ask ridiculously high prices for them.

Eg 1. A while back I purchased totalaviation.org. The .com was taken at the time, I wanted to make an aviation site. Anyways, few months ago I contact the company who held it, they wanted $2500 for it. But if that was above my budget, they had totalaviation.net for $688. Damn, if only they'd buy my totalaviation.org domain off me for $688.

Eg 2. This wasn't as bad. I contacted the owner of webmasterspot.com. I offered the guy $100, then he comes back and wants $1500. I offered him $200 and he drops the price to $400. Still considering if its worth offering $300 for it or now.

Eg 3. Was looking for a business name for my sites. JonesEnterprise.com would fit the bill. Anyways, contact the owner of it thinking I could get it for $50-100. They come back asking $1000 for it, geeze, its a pretty specific domain to try and get 1k for. I just bought the .ca domain of it instead.

Anyone else want to post someone who wanted a rediculous amount for their domain. I know these guys are running a business, but you can see by how long they've been holding the name for that they will be waiting 10+ years to find someone who would actually pay that much for the domain.

I usually try to ask for fair market value for my domain names for sale. I consider what the name would get in the aftermarket, what I might be able to get from an end-user and make a price somewhere in the middle. I also consider branding, popularity, and what potential income from a developed site could be.

A couple years ago I contacted a guy who was selling: BuyDomainNamesForSale.com. He wanted something like $50,000 undeveloped. And he said he wouldn't budge on the price.. LOL I just found something else for the time being but sometime after that I noticed that BuyDomainNamesForSale.com had dropped, I reg'd it and now it is my portfolio site:) Saved myself $47,993 LOL

i hate people who ask a fortune for something not worth 10% of what they're asking.

Some people are just riduculous with the prices they want for their domains. Others just give a huge price as they are not serious about selling but just do it to get rid of you because they know that you're not gonna buy or if you're a desperate enduser & MUST have that domain, will pay a good price for it.

And also, we do have a domain discussion section on DP, where this thread should be: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45

Or maybe they're actually using it so if they sell there's a cost involved in migrating emails etc, printing, website contacts.

The domain on it's own might not be worth so much but to compensate for the disruption they need more.
