I was checking one blog and the guys says this in his post.

    http://cornell.wordpress.com/2007/07/22/encrypted-footer-links-in-wp-themes/

So the guy seems to believe that sponsor links are affiliate links and the website owner gets paid everytime someone clicks it. Funny how people make complete BS up.

Apart from when payment takes place, you're kidding yourself if you think "sponsored" links don't represent a type of financial affiliation. A free theme is still free work. I use one myself, and I have no illusions or fairy tales about the designer not profiting from referral traffic. Duh.

Um, the poster said that the sponsor links is an affiliate program. Sponsor links are not an affiliate program, its a paid link. Although affiliate programs can be considered sponsor links, I have never seen an affiliate program as the sponsor for a free theme. So stop kidding yourself buddy.

Ive been designing for almost 6 years, both free and custom/premium web designs and logos. So dont pretend you know more about how designers make money.

I didn't say or think anything about one person having more experience than the other. But now that you've responded asking whether something is a real word or not, you've shown me you don't have as much experience as I do.

And yes, a sponsored link means you've created a relationship with another site for money.

Am i talking about an affiliate? No im talking about an affiliate program.

    Affiliate: Partner with another site.
Affiliate Program: PPC/PPL/PPS/etc program which shows rotated/random paid links usually in a specific category.

Now you're splitting hairs with the semantic parsing. If you want to go down that road, have fun. But while you're "lol" at someone who gets it right in spirit but not to the letter, I'm "lol"ing at the clueless posters who make useless distinctions.

Think about it from your users point of view. Not just when it comes to looking at a bunch of links you don't trust on some site, but that approach will help in just about every decision you need to make.
